Jerry Lundegaard

The, Fargo has several main characters, I guess.

But, uh, like, Jerry Lundegaard being kind of a incompetent criminal and, like, a real, a real jerk, you know? That guy, you know? He, he's a, a, a b- really bad person, and he's also bad at being a criminal and doing these bad things.

Um, and so I feel like it was kind of going for that.

Um, or at least w- had some inspiration there.

And I've always looked at that film as kind of, in the best possible way, Jewish revenge on Lutheran Minnesota, just in terms of the accents, you know.

[laughs] And I love the whole story about how William H. Macy, after he got, af- really worked hard to get that role of Jerry Lundegaard, uh, the world's least trustworthy car salesman, [laughs] also not a good husband, he refused to do the dialect 'cause he was told, "Okay, well, here's a dialect coach for you." "I'm not gonna d- I can't do..." And then he read the script again, which he liked, and it's like, okay, well, there's no way, I literally can't not do the dialect 'cause of the way certain words like geez-

Yeah

... keep coming up, or whatever.

And anyway, that gives it a certain tang.

Jerry Lundegaard.

It's very easy to track the seven days.

So after the credits, the movie begins at a bar with William H. Macy as Jerry Lundegaard.

Oh, yeah.

Heck, do you mean arriving at a bar? He walks in.

Like, yes, it is.

It is a character that's saying this to him in a in a different sort of capacity.

But that is what Jerry Lundegaard is.

Jerry Lundegaard is a liar.

You want your own wife kidnapped.

Now, her dad, he's real well off, so why don't you just ask him for the money? Hon! Wait, it's Jerry.

I don't know what to do.

It's something hard, geez.

How's Jean? Who's Jean? My wife.

Oops!

All due respect, Jerry, I don't want you mucking this up.

What the heck do you mean? No, Jean! No money! Who are you? Circumstances have changed, Jerry.
