It has come to be that time that we put Jericho Sims under the microscope, Camille, and we've also reached the point in our player profiles, well, there's one player that we're holding off on just to see what the roster looks like.

Outside of him, we've kind of reached the point of there's not a whole lot to pull in terms of comps and looking at the last few years, so we're going in blind for a lot of these players and just what our hopes and expectations are for them.

Jericho is probably the last of the guys that we have that we think will be a regular contributor to the team that we have a sizable piece of data to pull from.

So let's make the most of it, right? Jericho Sims.

Into year number three with the Bucs, his second full season, signed another vet minimum deal in the offseason, and that carries with it a cap hold for next offseason.

The numbers you see on the screen are smaller than what the veteran minimum contract actually is.

That's because the league subsidizes a portion of the minimum contracts.

That's the guy that I'm looking at.

Uh, Jericho Sims, there is a possibility that Jericho Sims, um, could get waived by the Bucks.

The Bucks are in a situation, kind of like the Lakers, where the Bucks need to move on from, I think they're two players over.

I think they're at 17 players on their roster, so they're gonna have to cut a couple of people, and it, and Jericho Sims could wind up available.

None of these guy- I'm not talking about, like, needle-moving play- like, we're not talking about you go get Karl-Anthony Towns or, or whoever, right? Um, I'm...

Even, like, a Wendell Carter level player.

There will be nights where that will happen.

I think what you need is somebody who, in a break glass in case of emergency situation, can suddenly scale up and play a lot more minutes, and that's where, like, a Goga made sense, somebody like that, uh, would...

You just move on, especially since he's non-guaranteed.

From there, though, um the name that keeps popping up is jericho sims i saw there were some people that that were talking bucks folks that were talking carrots lavert but he's at 14.8 million i think i'd rather have that expiring contracts contract but there's a lot of teams around the nba who could use a big i think there's a world where jericho sims actually springs free of the milwaukee bucks in order to get them down to 15 and he finds a new home before the start of the season

That would be pretty interesting, actually.

I think he'd be a big that team.

Because of this, the Bucs may look elsewhere to add another key player during their rebuild, while the Nets may also want young players and more draft capital in return for Porter Jr. in a deal.

I think that last paragraph tells the whole story about why some of these trades are so weird for the Bucs because in a situation where the Bucs trade Miles Turner, right, which I do understand getting rid of his contract, but he is a veteran center for this rotation that does not have an overall great rotation at center, right? If you take Kahlil Ware out, like it's just Jericho Sims and Bogajou Markovic, no disrespect to those guys, but that is a significant drop-off in comparison to having, like, Khalil Ware as your backup big behind Miles Turner, or Miles Turner as your backup big behind Khalil Ware, for that matter, right? So you're taking a significant hit in the center market to trade for Michael Porter Jr.

for a team that's already wing-heavy with Hamehawk as Nate Ahmed.

Kyle, well, you're trading Kyle Kuzma in this, but you trade, you have Hamehawk as Nate Ahmed, Uzman Jang already in the lineup, and you're acquiring...

Because, by the way, Noah Clowney also becomes a free agent this upcoming summer.

So now you're trading Miles Turner.

an expiry contract at Kyle Kuzma, and more importantly, that 2031 first-round pick for the Miami Heat, just to get somebody in Michael Porter Jr. who could walk away for nothing, and Noah Clowney, who, I mean, maybe you might want to bring back as a budget center, but, like, I mean, is he that much better than Jericho Sims? Like, I think Noah Clowney's a pretty good center overall.

But is he that much better than Jericho Sims? I don't think so necessarily.

But we saw Gary Trent Jr. and Miles Turner both see a huge uptick in corner threes last year.

Uh, Jericho Sims we've seen flirting with it in the Miami Pro-Ams too.

So I, I like that he's comfortable off the dribble and on those above the break threes, but more importantly, the mid-range, to just continue to sprinkle in more areas where, uh, you can find offense, that you feel like we've got shooters, and we went through Gary Trent, obviously, A.J. Green, and some others.

Um, we got guys that we feel like are gonna put some pressure on the rim.

If you put him in a lineup that has Tyler Hero and Jaime Jaquez on the floor as primary ball handlers, You have now made Kevin Porter Jr. either the secondary ball handler or the tertiary, the third base caliber ball handler on the floor, as opposed to making the most out of where his best skill set is, which is as a lead decision maker.

Now, instead, he is the second or third decision maker as far as ball handling is concerned on the floor in a lineup that has both Tyler Herro and Jame Hawkins in it, as him being the sixth man off the bench in a lineup where Braden Burry essentially is playing the Ryan Rollins role, and you have Usman Jang, and you have Nate Ahmed at your power forward position, or Kyle Kuzma at your power forward position, and then you have one of either Jericho Sims or Kaleo Ware on the floor as well.

Kevin Porter Jr. in that scenario is the lead decision maker on the floor in that second unit.

A second unit of Kevin Porter Jr. next to either of Braden Burries or Kasper Shaka Shonis, Usman Jang, Nate Ahmet, Kaleo Ware, or Jericho Sims.

Like, Kevin Porter Jr. is the de facto lead decision maker in that group.

And we saw last season that that's where he was able to thrive the most.

So in order to absorb that kind of contract in the deal, I think that you just would have to really consider the idea of, uh, adding at least one first round pick.

If you could get a first round pick, an expiring contract in Grant Williams, a long-term deal and a veteran forward in Dorian Finney-Smith and get, like, again, Ryan Kalkbrenner to kind of replace Turner in the center rotation, I think that's still a pretty good return given the fact that, you know, Jericho Sims is not, uh, you know, necessarily destined to be a long-term answer at the backup center position behind Kaleel Ware.

Myles Turner being gone would mean that the only other real backup center under, uh, contract for the Bucs would be, uh, Bogdan Markovic, who I love, but you still wouldn't-- you still would like to have another, you know, center in the, in the fray here.

And Ryan Kalkbrenner is a guy who did show some real strides, um, as a rebounder and, um, a little bit as a rim protector for the Charlotte Hornets in his rookie season last year.

The Bucks just getting out of the Myles Turner business and being able to get expiring contracts in, in return alone could be a really big boost for the Bucks in terms of what they could do next off-season with all the money they'll have in their back pocket 'cause for, uh, context here, and this will be how we close out the podcast.

For context, according, according to Spotrac, Myles Turner by far would be making the most money of any player under contract going into the 2027, 2028 season for the Bucks.

If the roster, right, if Tali Hero, Kyle Kuzma, Caris LeVert, Kevin Porter, Ryan Rollins, uh, Jericho Sims all hit unrestricted free agency next summer, Jaime Jaquez also becomes a restricted free agent, so he'll have a cap hold of $17.8 million.

But Myles Turner is at $27.8 million.

One guy... you want to talk about defense and switch ability.

If you look at the Milwaukee bucks, they've got a roster crunch and our old friend Jericho Sims on the roster.

There is a guy that I'd be looking at if I was trying to, maybe get a center.

I don't think it would cost too much to get him instead of having Milwaukee just cut him and another player to get to the 15 players that they're allowed by the league.

I was just I was looking at because we're at the time now we're getting ready for training camp and I'm starting to look at roster crunches.

as a reporter.

And I just looked at the Bucs and I said, hmm, Jericho Sims would be interesting to me.

Obviously, he's got familiarity here.
