bit oh yeah i'm riding that joker like a train so oh god no pun intended uh anyway so so i end up going back and watching like the same shit over and over again for comfort yeah So today I found myself watching the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes again.

And it was The Crooked Man.

Did he live in a crooked house? He did not.

80s.

Jeremy Brett.

You know Jeremy Brett.

I think he's trying to sway me into saying Patriot player with the way he said that tone-wise.

It's very leading.

I should probably get one wrong soon just to make it a better bit.

Jeremy Brett played Mason Parks in the episode Death in the Slow Lane.

So yeah, and I just have always, ever since then, that sort of fed into my love of mysteries.

And then I discovered the Jeremy Brett series and sort of grew up on that.

And I remember every Saturday for a while they'd show one of the Basil Rathbone films.

So every Saturday I'd watch a Basil Rathbone film.

She took over day-to-day production on the Granada Sherlock Holmes series, beginning with the return of Sherlock Holmes when Michael Cox stepped into an executive producer role.

And she stayed with the series right through its end there and was a wonderful conduit to PBS, WGBH in Boston, as that series continued to be broadcast across the pond.

But she was a great friend of our friends at the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes podcast, and they broke the news on Facebook last week.

So we'll have a link in the show notes to our remembrance of June Wyndham Davies.

... excellent Sherlock Holmes.

Oh, yeah

... and then some of the others.

But there is nobody that is closer to doing Sherlock Holmes the way, uh, it was, should have been than Jeremy Brett.

And, you know, he had quite the career going with that, and then he died.

Love that.

And then found the Jeremy Brett version on PBS.

Would have been 80s and 90s.

And those are terrific.

I mean...

they are just the short stories so and but they're not that expensive you you usually find those those comics for two or three or four bucks uh but there are a lot of reading and i know billy you like pretty pictures so more than you like words but uh but that's a way to get uh that's a way to get the uh to get the uh the stories, the original stories themselves.

In terms of TV adaptations, partly because they stick so close to it, it's the Granada TV ones with Jeremy Brett.

They did not quite get through all of the Doyle canon, though they came pretty close before he passed away.

Hmm.

In 2009, John Walsh of The Independent commented that alongside the classic incarnations of The Great Detective by Basil Rathbone, Peter Cushing, and Jeremy Brett, audiences have had to suffer the impersonations of Michael Caine, Peter Cook, Larry Hagman, John Cleese, Tom Baker, even Roger Moore.

right and mine is is basil redbone jeremy brett is incredible and i'll admit it but you know i came across him later I think he might actually be considered by the, you know, by the greatest amount of people to be their favorite.

I was just checking that I wasn't deluding myself.

No, for me, when I was that age, it was another entry on our tier list that was sort of my formative Sherlock, which was the very classical BBC masterpiece theater style Sherlock adaptation with Jeremy Brett, where they did nothing.

It's a period piece.

They do nothing to try to modernize it.

I remember, um, I remember watching that as a teenager when I needed my fix because the BBC Jeremy Brett series was, was over.

And you actually have seen it.

Yeah, yeah.

Do we see his son ever? His son gets kidnapped by Jeremy Brett.

Yeah.

We haven't seen that one, have we? You're not going to.
