It's three things you need to know with the Alabama Show.
AlabamaHOST
10:49
Jefferson County is warning scammers and posing as county officials to get inside their homes.
AlabamaHOST
10:54
The county says that employees are always going to be in county marked vehicles, which are going to have the county seal and sign on the side.
AlabamaHOST
11:01
And you can ask to see an official I.D. badge to make sure if anybody asks to come inside your home.
AlabamaHOST
11:05
So if anybody knocks on the door and says they work for Jefferson County, just double check before you let them in.
AlabamaHOST

AlabamaHOST
11:13

Jeff PoorHOST
6:41
But where you're really gonna see is where you're seeing these demographic shifts, and that's North Alabama, and that is the suburbs over the mountain, Jefferson County.
Jeff PoorHOST
6:53
That is something I think is, you know, a real thing here.
Jeff PoorHOST
7:01
I was talking to one guy yesterday, very plugged in, and he, he's just like, "Man, we, we, we, we're gonna lose a couple of these seats in, in North Alabama." We got a Senate seat up.
Jeff PoorHOST
8:09
The, the wind is blowing in Democrats' direction.
Jeff PoorHOST
8:11
I think that's-- there's no reason to think that that won't happen, that you won't see a few upsets.
Jeff PoorHOST
8:19
Hearing the same thing, I-I'm, I'm, I'm not necessarily a believer there in, in, you know, South Jefferson County, uh, especially in Shelby County, hearing some doom and gloom.
Jeff PoorHOST
8:34
But Democrats are making inroads here.
Ike MorganHOST
2:06
So it'll take care of all that Bradford to Palmerdale traffic.
Ike MorganHOST
2:10
Now, If it's finished according to plan, it'll end up being 52 miles of interstate connecting I-459 in Bessemer to I-59 in Northeast Jefferson County.
Ike MorganHOST
2:24
The latest estimated budget for the project comes in at $6.19 billion.
Ike MorganHOST
2:33
It may or may not be finished in our lifetimes, depending on how seasoned we are.
Amy Beth ShaverHOST
0:54
We have...
Amy Beth ShaverHOST
0:56

We'll eventually see Allison this week.
Amy Beth ShaverHOST
0:07
We can't wait to hear all about her trip, but you know what we have for now? We are joined by Phillip Brown, who is the chairman of the Jefferson County GOP.
Amy Beth ShaverHOST
0:16
We're going to cover a couple of things.
Amy Beth ShaverHOST
0:17
One is an event that's coming up.
Phillip BrownGUEST
2:08
correct, Friday night.
Phillip BrownGUEST
2:09
And unfortunately, it's football Friday night in the Birmingham area, so.
Phillip BrownGUEST
2:14
I know we're going to have a little competition with Hoover and Jefferson County and Birmingham football.
Amy Beth ShaverHOST
2:22
It is what it is.

Mike PrisocGUEST

Mike PrisocGUEST
14:56
Can we commit to an engine company which us and Mount Olive have? Can we commit to your tanker? Can we commit to can you give me an EMT to ride the transport when it's my turn to do?
Ike MorganHOST
1:54
AL.com's Greg Garrison reported on both stories.
Ike MorganHOST
1:58
Now, in Jefferson County, a jury awarded the sheriff's brother a $7 million verdict in his case against 1819 News and a local political official.
Ike MorganHOST
2:11
Now, that's $6 million in punitive damages and $1 million in compensatory damages.
Ike MorganHOST
2:19
The jury agreed with the plaintiffs that news stories about Bruce Petway were part of a political effort to defame him and his brother, Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Petway.
Ike MorganHOST
2:32
Sheriff Petway is a Democrat, and 1819 News is a right-wing publication.
Ike MorganHOST
2:39
The damages are for harm to Bruce Petway's reputation, loss of business opportunities, and mental anguish.
Ike MorganHOST
2:47
Jefferson County Republican Party Chairman Christopher Brown appeared two years ago on the Alabama's Morning News with JT talk radio show.
Ike MorganHOST
2:57
The lawsuit claimed that he intentionally defamed Petway's reputation by linking him to illegal bingo operations and that 1819 News published those same statements.
Spencer SuttonHOST
4:28
You need to know your tax.
Spencer SuttonHOST
4:30
I've seen a lot of people sell properties, and on the spreadsheet it has like homestead tax, whereas here in Birmingham, non-homestead tax is double what homestead tax is in Jefferson County.
Spencer SuttonHOST
4:42
And so you need to know these things so that you can adequately run your numbers and know, hey, this is what I can expect.
Spencer SuttonHOST
4:50
Again, this kind of comes back to high expectations.

6 MINS LATER

Spencer SuttonHOST
10:35
Here in Birmingham, I think now we have two.
Spencer SuttonHOST
10:37
I think we have Birmingham Section 8.
Spencer SuttonHOST
10:39
We have Jefferson County Section 8.
Spencer SuttonHOST
10:40
But there used to be like Bessemer Section 8 and.
JTHOST
63:52
More on this with Paul DeMarco.
JTHOST
63:54

JTHOST
64:22
I mean, come on, give us the shooters is what she says.
Paul DeMarcoGUEST
64:25
Yep.
Paul DeMarcoGUEST
67:17
I'm not saying that's the case here, but I've heard.
Paul DeMarcoGUEST
67:20
Sure.
Paul DeMarcoGUEST
67:20
And people talk about we have some weak sentences here in Jefferson County, and we have some judges who do not want to sentence and put people in jail for a long time.
Paul DeMarcoGUEST
67:29
I mean, one judge has got that reputation for – Oh, these
Jeff PoorHOST
8:55
Well, we're not talking about – maybe with the exception of the 2nd Congressional District and some places up in Huntsville, it seems like it's going to go like it always goes.
John MerrillGUEST
9:07
Yeah, except that the third place I think you should have mentioned is Jefferson County because there are some people in the Homewood, Hoover, Mountain Brook, Vestavia area who believe that they know – what's right and best and that a lot of the elected officials have not been representing them because they feel like they need to be um the bastions of um freedom for their communities and and they are the ones that i think could end up having replacements in the legislature having some republicans some of whom have been there for a while beaten by democrats there is going to be a lot of enthusiasm for doug jones and for his campaign and he is very smart very well organized he's an outstanding communicator makes it more difficult on coach than we would have hoped for it to have been but they came out with the messages about the um the ai centers and uh doing all of the things that they are known to be polling um well for democrats and just concentrating on those issues instead of concentrating on what we know democratic issues are which they're trying to stay away from so They won't be tied to those things.
Jeff PoorHOST
10:33
Well, tell me, you know, you made a bid for Republican Party chairman.
Jeff PoorHOST
10:37
I don't think we're going the way of Georgia.
