Sure.

Uh, well, I, I moved to Missouri when, uh, I was, uh, nine years old.

Uh, and I grew up on a pretty big farm, uh, just outside, uh, the city of Salem in, uh, Dent, in Dent County.

Um, and my first actual encounter happened when I was, uh, 14 years old.

Uh, I was home alone and it was a Sunday afternoon.

My, my parents had gone into town and, uh, my dogs, I-- We had hunting dogs, and, uh, they started to make this, uh, this commotion, kind of a commotion I, I'd not heard from them before, kind of a different kind of bark, uh, different kind of aggravation.

What'd you guys end up seeing?

Yeah.

Well, my, uh, wife and I, uh, we had just been married.

We moved back to California, where I grew up, and, uh, we were living in Oceanside.

And, uh, one of the places where we used to go camping as a family when I was a kid, uh, was one of the places I wanted to show her.

So we packed up one weekend, and I told her I was gonna show her, um, Laguna Mountain in eastern San Diego County, uh, East County.

It's really the snap.

If you've ever seen the commercial with Rodney Savage, you snap into Slim Jim.

So it's really the collagen casing that makes the snap.

And so it's a bit dated, but we had invested in a collagen casing company.

It was listed in the UK.

It fit our strategy of a high-quality company.

The design of-- all of our processes are designed around making the product safe, making it consistent, eliminating risks, things like foreign objects in our products.

Which you have to have almost

... hits, hits, hits their quota by beginning of February this year, um, mid-February in the past couple years.

So it matters to them.

They are, um, they've been a big, uh, importer in the past couple years.

It's kind of a new thing since 2021, um, and our prices started going up, and, and, um, they've, uh, found our marketplace to be pretty attractive, and it's still attractive to them today.

So we haven't-- It's not like they hit their quota and they immediately stop shipping us meat.

That's not the case.

What can you tell me about what we learned for beef specifically in the talks this week?

Hmm.

Uh, which I'd, I'd love to share in the next one we do.

我不觉得是没有影响的。始终呢，这一个的政策啦，是一个原本运行了二三十年的制度，基本上对澳洲大部分的楼市板块都一定至少在情绪上啦，是会有很大的影响。但是呢，市区的游戏规则，和一些偏远地区的游戏规则是完全不一样。首府城市呢，其实好多时候，那里买房的人，会比较多是属于自住人士，又或者是跨州移民啊，海外的移民的人士。而基本上呢，对他们的影响是相对小，因为本身资本增值税，和这个负扣税呢，只是集中在，在投资者身上的。好多的这些市区的投资物业在用旧制，所以呢，会令到在市区首府城市，以前买下的房的人呢，反而呢，他们的持有的年份呢，可能会更加，更加长。因为呢，其实大家如果好简单 search 一个叫做，呃，locking effect 呢，你就会见到啦，三四年前在市区，或者十年前买市区的物业，你一直可以沿用旧制去做到负扣税。但是如果你卖走了这个在首府城市的物业的投资，然后转去一些其他任何一个城市，或者偏远地区的话呢，你就从此会丧失了这一个的负扣税的资格。那么所以呢，相信啦，会锁定了很多投资者在，呃，一些的，你所讲的市区里面的投资物业。那么而且呢，在市区啦，就是大家都知道的，大家想住的地方，当然是越近市区，人口越多，就有越多自住人士的。那一类的物业呢，相对，我觉得影响呢，是比较短期，而且是一些情绪来的。我就不太担心呢，对这些市区会有好大的影响。我相信呢，过了这个情绪呢，基本上你不需要太担心啦，那个房价是会有好大幅度的下滑。短期的，可能 within 2到3%的一些的 fluctuation，这些是在市场上基本上是好正常的事。但是你说，啊，一个好大的 collapse 呢，我相信在比较多人口啊，持续有移民的市场里面呢，基本上不会见到有一个好明显的崩盘。

坊间里面啦，对于这次的财案都有不同的一些 reaction 啦，或一些不同的声音啦。有些人就认为这次都是一场长期的博弈来的，也都希望可以，就是透过拿回这个，就是付购税啦，达至一个更公平置业的可能性啦。那你又对这个的说法怎么看呢？

我，我并不觉得有付购税或者有这个资本增值税是不公平的。因为本身呢，呃，你自己有钱，你在某一个时间去投入一个市场，去做一个投资，是你自己个人的考量和决定。赚钱的时候交某一部分的税是应该的。反过来说，如果楼市是下滑的时候，政府又会不会给回钱这些投资者呢？所以我并不赞成去改革这个付购税，对市场更加公平。因为大家都是辛辛苦苦去赚的钱回来，我有钱我去做自己的投资，在某一个时间点，我其实是要承受风险的。那但是如果他说，哦，我要收回的，那不要紧，那我也都觉得政府是，呃，在某一个程度上它是公平的。公平的原因就是它将你之前所赚得的，呃，就是资本增值税，它用回旧有的计法，那我觉得这个的安排是好的。我自己未必会很快去，呃，评估这一件事。因为呢，始终这个游戏规则是一个很新很新，对运行了二三十年的一个制度，现在重新基本上是炒起整件事，重新去设一个游戏规则。没错，在澳洲呢，呃，坦白讲呢，我会觉得现在呢，在这个情绪上面呢，是为整个市场淋了一盆冷水的。但是淋一盆冷水呢，其实未必是一件坏事，因为呢，不是楼市一定一直升呢就是一件好事。这个市场情绪过热呢，好像去年呢第四季出这个，呃， five percent deposit scheme 的时候呢，其实我的心呢，还更加惊恐的，因为呢，究竟这个楼市会冲到什么地步呢，是很危险的。相反我反过来看呢，它淋了一盆冷水，大家冷静一下，大家重新去部署整个的投资的计划。这个呢，我反而觉得呢，在这个角度呢，是一件好事。那但是会不会用力过猛呢，令到整个市场是崩盘啊，其实需要时间去验证，也都不是在它出了台的，呃，这个政策两天之后，我们就可以去 judge。其实呢，现在这个的政策里面呢，如果你看政府的网页呢，其实只有几句，里面其实有很多细节上的东西呢，是未能够呢，是厘清得到。我举一个例子，其实我有问过一些 accountant，如果你现在是一个 new built 的自住物业，但是去到2027年7月1号前，你将它由这个自住物业转成这个投资物业，究竟它是沿用旧的制度，还是新制度。我问过几个 accountant，其实大家都未有一个很清楚的共识。那所以呢，其实有很多细节上的东西呢，我相信无论是政府或者业界里面啦，都需要更多时间啦，去观察，以及去看下究竟这个政策怎么走下去。

What was the first motivation? How did you go from being gamers to cheat makers?

For me, it was always, you know, seeing how far you can go.
