Jeff Trott

Um, some of that stuff, um, you know, I sort of brought into the future and kinda cannibalized and used in later songs, because there were some really, um, there were some really strong ideas, but I just wasn't, uh, experienced enough or confident enough, or I just didn't have, uh, what it took yet to put those things all together, the lyrics and, um, the music and arrangement and structures and things like that.

Uh, there's a song, uh, from my solo albums years later called, um, A Man Needs An Airplane, which I co-wrote with a songwriter named Jeff Trott.

He, he's written songs you've, you've heard definitely.

He's written major hit songs, main- mainly with Sheryl Crow.

... and I, and I really like that.

Every song, uh, was written by you and your collaborator, Jeff Trott.

My musical husband.

Your musical husband.

Her latest album is called Pick You Up.

It features seven new songs, which she describes as, quote, "Commentaries on being human and wanting connection." They were written by Crow and longtime collaborator Jeff Trott, who she first worked with in the mid-'90s back in Los Angeles.

These days, Crow lives and works out of Nashville, Tennessee, and was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

But amid selling over 50 million records worldwide, headlining tours around the globe, the singer-songwriter from Missouri has also battled sexism, depression, and cancer.

Crow's best-known songs include All I Want to Do, If It Makes You Happy, Soak Up the Sun, and Every Day Is a Winding Road.

Yes.

That song, which was after the Globe Sessions, um, Jeff Trott and I were working.

We were working at Clinton Studios.

I mean, I have so many New York memories and-

[laughs]

Anyway, it went on from there.

Um, but the funny thing was, I was, uh, down with a stomach bug, and my friend Jeff Trott was here, and we wound up writing Suck Up the Sun in that apartment the day after I talked to Bob Dylan.

Not that he had anything to do with it, but, um, yeah, so full circle moment.

And so we were sitting outside of one of them, taking a break, and they were setting up for the next scene.

And I don't know if you know who Jeff Trott is.

No.

Jeff Trott is a wonderful musician, wonderful producer, wonderful writer.

He wrote...

All of those hits with Sheryl Crow.
