Jeff Ruland

Again, a tiny, tiny school.

And there were seminal moments when I was in high school, going up and watching Iona, coached by Jim Valvano, with Jeff Ruland and Glenn Vickers beat St. Francis, and then going and watching that same Iona team blow out Louisville in Madison Square Garden, one of, I believe, two losses Louisville suffered that year when they won the national championship in 1980.

And many, many other events, seeing Albert King play in high school because they play a game at St. Francis, you know, and Albert King was the best player in the country.

This stuff just seared into my head.

Finally, last but not least, Whoa, we forgot.

We forgot Jeff Ruland.

Jeff Ruland will be with us tonight.

Forgot to mention that, folks.

The great Iona Starr from Sachem and also the NBA.

Thank you.

That's the great Gerry Cooney, ladies and gentlemen.

Well, up next, from Sachem to Iona to the NBA, Jeff Ruland's up next on Sports Talk New York.
