S

He's for sure lost the defense because they're, and you throw Jeff Reinbold and Reinbold's a, a heck of a coach.

I don't know whose decision it is anymore over there.
A
53:23Arash MadaniGUEST
Is it Dinwiddie's decision? Is it Jeff Reinbold's decision? Is it Sean Burke's decision? I don't know.
A
53:29Arash MadaniGUEST
But you just look at how Ottawa is going about it right now.
A
53:32Arash MadaniGUEST
Are they just auditioning guys to see what they have at 0-9 moving forward? And if that's the case, that's fine because you're not going to win.

You know, there's only one way to go here for Ottawa.
B
108:49Brendan McGuireHOST
Whenever a coordinator takes over, sometimes it takes a few weeks for things to really take shape the way they want it.
B
108:55Brendan McGuireHOST
And unless I've missed anything, the understanding I've had is that when Jeff Reinbold took over, what Dinwiddie really wanted him to do was just focus on the basics and do what you know how to do, just do it better and stop trying to be so elaborate.
B
109:08Brendan McGuireHOST
And I think that may have led to some of the friction between the guy who was there before running the defense fields.
Tre Ford shines, V.A. goes down, could Redblacks go winless?
J

He's 210, 215 pounds.
J
14:26John HodgeHOST
So if that is the change in defense, and this change did coincide with the move from William Fields at defensive coordinator to Jeff Reinbold at defensive coordinator, evidently it's, it's a style switch.
J
14:41John HodgeHOST
And when I asked Dinwiddie if maybe in hindsight his team wishes that they had allocated their free agency dollars differently, he said, "Well, you know, it's hard to say," but he did admit that maybe instead of being as active as they were, they should have relied more on the players they had in-house and trusted their scouting staff more, which I took to maybe mean, okay, instead of going out and spending all this money to make A.J. Allen the highest-paid linebacker in the Canadian Football League, maybe we should have said, "You know what? We like the, the scheme fit of Lucas Cormier.
J
15:15John HodgeHOST
We like the fact that he's still developing.
J
16:26John HodgeHOST
And it should be noted, Dunc, he did play a lot more in that Winnipeg game the day after him and I spoke, and he had two sacks.
J
16:34John HodgeHOST
So evidently, he's still a good player, right? And he, he's certainly bringing it.
J
16:39John HodgeHOST
Speaking of the sack that Cormier had, by the way, the blindside hit that Zach Collars took, brilliantly dialed up by Jeff Reinbold, I had to use the little boys room at halftime of that game while the Red Blacks coaching staff was walking down the hall to the elevator to get down to the visitors locker room.
J
16:57John HodgeHOST
And I s- I saw Jeff Reinbold, said, "Coach, you guys got him on that blitz." And he did not turn his head to me, and he loudly grunted, but it wasn't an English word.
That's so Ottawa

They highlighted the play that put together by defensive coordinator Jeff Reinbold that definitely disguised the linebacker quite well.
T

Brady Oliveira on the other side of the formation, he wasn't back there to block or anything like that, but The reason Zach did so well when he went to Winnipeg is because he went untouched for the better part of like three years.

B
41:14Brad SinopoliHOST
Yeah, the stats don't really tell the story of the game, but you kind of alluded to it earlier, just this defense has done a nice job getting a little bit of pressure, and that's something I know you said Jeff Reinbold is going to make some adjustments with so far in these two games.
B

Ottawa Redblacks Pregame Show - August 14, 2026
D
3:53Dave NaylorGUEST
This has been a long-standing Ottawa issue, and it's about getting the right mix of individuals and the right guys who can play together, and Ottawa just hasn't been able to find that.
D
4:04Dave NaylorGUEST
And I think when you've got a new defensive coordinator in Jeff Reinbold, he's going to have guys that he's watched over the first seven, eight weeks of the season, that he's liked their practice habits, he's liked the way they play in games, he likes the way they communicate, and there's guys that he's not going to see a future with.
D
4:20Dave NaylorGUEST
And I think this is, without writing off Ottawa's season, I think we are kind of at the stage where you're starting to look at guys that not just who's performing well week to week, but who are you investing in and who are you not investing in? And if you're not investing in someone, you're probably better to move on and give someone else an opportunity to see whether the next guy is somebody you want to invest in or whether the development time that somebody else gets by taking that spot makes them somebody you want to invest in.
D
4:48Dave NaylorGUEST
So three guys out of the secondary in the last two weeks, Gino Lewis on top of that.
