Locklear explained it to our reporter as if it had just happened yesterday.

This was in May, and it was about 95 degrees that day, and there's no power at this place, so it was really hot, really humid, and the place was covered in trash, and it's got a lot of old beer bottles and that kind of stuff, and the place was just filthy.

You go into that room, and one of the things that you learn real early as a homicide cop is death has a smell, and, um, that was readily evident.

In only 24 hours, because of the heat, um, that smell was permea- had permeated the whole room.

The other things you, you smell is blood, and, uh, there was a lot of it in this case.

And, um, the, the best way I can describe that to you is to put a penny in your mouth.

That sensation you get from that copper taste is kinda...

Did someone have it out for them in particular? Were there any violent clients that they knew of? Well, it turned out Lieutenant Locklear had a lot to learn.

Honestly, there wasn't even a super strong motive.

So you start learning about any problems that's within a marriage, right? Whatever issues they have going on, that stuff a lot of times will begin to rise to the surface.

And in this case, I think that's what they begin to see is, is that the, the boy's mom was at a point to where she was kinda done with the marriage, was ready to move on, but he, he wasn't.

That's the picture that was being painted to these, the detectives kinda as they done these interviews.

But that doesn't mean it's too late for justice, which for Lieutenant Locklear doesn't necessarily mean an arrest.

Justice, I think, in this case would be us locating their remains and bringing them home.

Sadly enough, uh, this case caused a lot of people to die with a broken heart, and, um, I think that's the biggest travesty is that that lady left this world, and the father did as well, not knowing where his kids are.

I can't imagine what that would feel like.
