So Jeff Hawkins does computational research, and this is about the theory of the neocortex and so forth.

And he also ties it into artificial intelligence as well.

And so this book, A Brief History of Intelligence, I got because it's in the same vein.

I came

to know about this new research institute that was opened by Jeff Hawkins.

By coincidence, Palm was one of the first stocks that I bought.

I think the first ever stock that I bought was Palm when I came to the US.

Same is true for evolution and the path dependence of how we get to where we are.

So you can't, even though Jeff Hawkins, at the end of his book on intelligence, just out of nowhere says we'll cut and paste like French language skills or, you know, between these art- evolved artifacts, I don't think that's possible at all because we have no example around us in information networks, rich, complex information networks, where the evolved product of biological evolution, deep learning, machine learning, any of these, is cut and paste-able.

What is much more efficient is just grow a new one from scratch.

And so you'll be learning more than ever before, just more rapidly.

That's cool.

All right, my pick is a book by Jeff Hawkins called A Thousand Brains.

I just finished reading it, and, um, I was having a conversation with Claude about AI.

And I said, "Can you recommend some books for me to understand where this came from?" And this is one of the books that it recommended to me.

So Jeff Hawkins actually was one of the co-founders of the PalmPilot.
