American singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley rose to fame in the mid-1990s with the release of his cover of Hallelujah.

Ironically, though, Buckley's end would be far from holy.

In 1997, Buckley was in Memphis recording a follow-up to his smash hit debut album, Grace.

Most likely, the motion of the boat through the water created a turbulent flow, which pulled the singer under.

After Buckley's body was spotted five days later, a medical report showed he had no traces of any substances in his system, so this bizarre scene unfolded while he was completely sober.

Wow, that's almost less rock and roll than dying on the toilet, but Jeff Buckley isn't the only singer to go down literally.

Famous country singer-songwriter John Denver is known for classic hits like Take Me Home, Country Road, as well as Leaving on a Jet Plane.

I like that one.

One of the artists he got me onto was a guy called Jeff Buckley, who I really, really like now.

He makes these very somber songs, very emotional, very sweet.

And, uh, I don't know.

But I do not... try to like sound like him it's just kind of natural um and some of my other favorite singers i also do pull from like chris martin from coldplay jeff buckley um but yeah

I can understand pull from some of those other singers as well, just because, again, there's a lot of other music that you enjoy that you were influenced by before getting into Scarhaven, before getting into Grunge.

So there's different things you're going to pull from those artists that you like.

So I thought there are other songs that's been done, and it's been done by much, much bigger artists than me, and it's been done very successfully.

The version that I always think of is the Jeff Buckley version, which is the first time I heard the song.

I actually heard the Jeff Buckley version before I heard the original.

And then I thought, wow, this is Leonard Cohen.

And so I went back to the Leonard Cohen album, various positions, and I listened to his version after hearing a cover.

She found the Cranberries, but her boss wouldn't let her sign them.

She found Jeff Buckley, but her boss didn't think he had any charisma and he wouldn't let her sign them.

She did sign Moby.

I mean, there were other stories she had that she found the talent and that her male boss wouldn't let her sign them.
