SamHOST
21:42
[laughs] Amazing.
SamHOST
21:44
Um, did you hear about, obviously you would've heard about, um, what happened with, um, Jeff Browning, Bronco Billy?
Warren RenkleGUEST
21:53
Yes.
SamHOST
21:54
That was, um, it was r- that was really s- it was really odd, wasn't it? 'Cause I, I remember seeing, like, in sort of real time, seeing the video that was posted of him where he was in the, he was in the checkpoint, and he'd s- and he'd lost his glasses.

8 MINS LATER

SamHOST
29:54
Um, it was came as, like, a bit of a revelation to, to Finn who was interviewing him.
SamHOST
29:59
And, but I, it made me just think of, like, the old school approach for people that did, that were doing, like, low carb because that was always the thing, wasn't it? That you were...
SamHOST
30:11
Uh, you know, I remember listening to interviews with, like, Jeff Browning and Zach Bitter, where they talked about the fact that they would, for the first hour, they would only have, like, water because they wanted the body to stay in fat burning mode for the, the, and spare their glycogen for as long as possible.
SamHOST
30:28
And I thought, is this, as a subject for the, for the, uh...
John TrentHOST
47:11
You know, to circle back to the very beginning when you were talking about, you know, all the things you were asked to do as you were preparing to run your race overseas there.
John TrentHOST
47:22
You know, and it is a lot, but it, you know, makes me think about, you know, what happened to Jeff Browning, you know, when he was running TDS and where he had a medical event and they had to airbag him out of there.
John TrentHOST
47:33
They brought him basically in the aid station.
John TrentHOST
47:36
They brought him back to life and airbagged him out.
Carrie MengHOST
49:58
Absolutely, John.
Carrie MengHOST
49:59
Yes.
Carrie MengHOST
49:59
And thank you for bringing up the Jeff Browning situation.
Carrie MengHOST
50:03
Obviously, I was out there when it happened in Chamonix when we found out And the details were unclear at the point of where he had collapsed as far as on the course.
AlexHOST
67:08
Well, and just, like, access.
AlexHOST
67:09
So Jeff Browning, who just went through a really big thing-
TaylorHOST
67:13
Yeah
AlexHOST
67:13
... at UTMB-
Arleigh HiskeyHOST
15:29
... that is being highlighted.
Arleigh HiskeyHOST
15:33
Um, other news from Europe, from across the pond, Jeff Browning.
Tara DowerHOST
15:40
Yeah.
Arleigh HiskeyHOST
15:40
I'm glad to hear that, I feel like the updates I've heard more recently are that he's, like, doing better.

23 MINS LATER

Tara DowerHOST
38:56
Good.
Arleigh HiskeyHOST
38:58
[laughs] Do you have like a-
Tara DowerHOST
38:59
Maybe you add Jeff Browning's, or not Jeff Browning, Jeff Garmire's film to your lineup next.
Arleigh HiskeyHOST
39:05
Oh, yes.
Matt RaymentHOST
48:33
And I don't know sometimes if there's a, I remember thinking with that Bronco Billy thing, if there is a comfort in, and I reject totally when people, you know, and I'm glad he didn't pass and be, I'm glad no one wrote, oh, he died doing what he loved because you can't make, that's about you, man.
Matt RaymentHOST
48:51
That's not about Jeff Browning.
Matt RaymentHOST
48:53
That's about you managing your distress around the situation.
Matt RaymentHOST
48:58
But you're so right.
Chadd WrightHOST
86:54
son.
Chadd WrightHOST
86:55
We were talking a little bit about kind of the wear and tear and the kind of the repercussions of... um going all in on this ultra running sport and i think the most recent thing that caught everyone off guard was um the thing that happened with jeff browning and thank god he survived yeah because that that could have seems like it could have turned out really bad.
Chadd WrightHOST
87:31
I mean,
Andrew GlazeGUEST
87:32
if you want to talk about like divine intervention, like if it happened at an aid station, did it, but if it had not been at an aid station, I mean, I'm a paramedic.
Andrew GlazeGUEST
89:04
All those things are great, but there's other things as endurance athletes that we have to look at to make sure that it is okay.
Chadd WrightHOST
89:13
Yeah, I couldn't believe it.
Chadd WrightHOST
89:14
I mean, Jeff Browning is somebody that we as ultra runners all look up to.
Chadd WrightHOST
89:23
I mean, I remember seeing him out when I was running Cocodona.
Matt RaymondHOST
48:24
It's amazing the notion that, yeah, life is – the rug is going to get pulled at one point for all of us, right? And we don't know – And I don't know sometimes if there's a – I remember thinking with that Bronco Billy thing, if there is a comfort in – and I reject totally when people, you know, and I'm glad he didn't pass and I'm glad no one wrote, oh, he died doing what he loved because you can't make – that's about you, man.
Matt RaymondHOST
48:51
That's not about Jeff Browning.
Matt RaymondHOST
48:53
That's about you managing your distress around the situation.
Matt RaymondHOST
48:58
But you're so right.
Cameron HanesGUEST
15:36
And I watched it, then commented on Jeff's page.
Cameron HanesGUEST
15:40
But what I just, I just, if you don't love Jeff Browning, you should fucking find something else to do.
Cameron HanesGUEST
15:51
he's like the most beloved athlete in ultra and you can tell how emotional he is and how much he loves just the community just by you know he gets choked up and it's like just because it means so much and it and it wouldn't mean that much like after health scare anyway but he gets choked up just talking about experiences or what that clip from Dylan's film, The Chase, where he's like, you know, this isn't necessarily what I wanted, but it's what I needed where he got reeled in at the end.
Cameron HanesGUEST
16:24
So this guy, his heart's on his sleeve.

15 MINS LATER

Cameron HanesGUEST
31:00
I understand there's growing pains.
Cameron HanesGUEST
31:04
But at the end of the day, man, it's such... it's such a beautiful community.
Cameron HanesGUEST
31:11
And I think the Jeff Browning, uh, experience has kind of showed that, that I just really want, I want that to get, be featured, not the, not the growing pains.
BrianHOST
31:21
No, totally.
Matt RaymentHOST
0:56
We've got so much good stuff to bring you in this episode, and it was an absolutely huge week in running for many reasons.
Matt RaymentHOST
1:03
But before we kick off, I just need to talk about Jeff Browning.
Matt RaymentHOST
1:09
And many of you probably heard last week, in fact, in social media age, this is old news now, that Jeff suffered a heart attack during the TDS.
Matt RaymentHOST
1:19
And this happened the day that our podcast with him came out to church.

1 HR 13 MINS LATER

Matt RaymentHOST
74:04
And it's probably a good place to leave it.
Matt RaymentHOST
74:06
But we're going to go and celebrate life and celebrate history.
Matt RaymentHOST
74:12
amazing human beings and celebrate the um you know the example that they set and and like you said that's exactly right and i think that also you know jeff browning and all that sort of thing you can you don't know what's around the corner so just grab it with both hands
Ali PottingerHOST
74:34
And Matt Pridham kind of spoke about how the climb has always been about that kind of mateship and having a drink and having a laugh and having, you know, the dark humour.
David LipmanHOST
85:38
I was having lunch with a friend and he told me about this and then I caught it more and more as it happened.
David LipmanHOST
85:42
But Jeff Browning, goes by GoBroncoBilly on social media, is a well-known American trail runner in his 40s.
David LipmanHOST
85:50
He had a heart attack on course.
David LipmanHOST
85:52
I'm not going to speculate too much here.
