That was certainly true for my guests today, Michael Lee and Steve Armaly, founders and managing partners of Ox Road Capital.

Along with their partners Brian Blackburn and Jeff Allen, Mike and Steve had built an extraordinarily successful $1.2 billion business at UBS.

Yet over time, they came to believe that the business they wanted to build and the level of white-glove service they wanted to provide required greater control over how they invested in their team, technology, and client experience.

But getting four partners aligned around a move of this magnitude wasn't easy.

A lot of people really struggle with, "Oh, my God, we just have to come up with something creative," but that's thoughtful and beautiful, and thank you for sharing it.

The level of collaboration and the wanting to work together to get to a certain point, that does not happen everywhere else.

And so one of the things I'm looking at, I hope, and I commented at a city council meeting a couple of weeks ago when I was there and honored, I said, every decision you make, you need to look beyond today and what is that impact going to mean in 25 years? What is going to happen? I had the opportunity to listen to Jeff Allen and make his comments at the Eau Claire Economic Development Corporation's annual meeting a couple of months ago.

And I learned something for the first time, and I'm going to guess a lot of you are not going to know this either.

So when you look at the history of Eau Claire, that when the lumber industry died and Uniroil closed and all of those other major effects we had, One thing never happened.
