If your chalet is down there, arriving via Prodains is a no-brainer.

Plus, just like at the Plateau, the horse-drawn sleighs and the night snowcats are waiting right outside the gondola exit to take your bags.

The only way up was on foot, carrying your wooden skis on your back.

But then this local lad from Morzine named Jean Vuarnet went over to California for the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics.

Ah, Jean Vuarnet, the ultimate Alpine maverick.

Literally.

He goes to California, wins the downhill gold medal, and completely rewrites the rule book of ski racing.
