Jean Daniélou

We're going to examine the theology of one of the founding fathers of ressource.

You might even say, maybe along with Jean Danielou, that de Lubac is the father of la nouvelle theologie, which comes to be known as ressourcement.

One could maybe throw Blondel into that, a few others, precursors like Chabon.

He's all the rage now.

Yeah, a new kingdom, a kingdom, uh, that is Davidic but now truly and fully divine.

And so you see what Danielou was up to.

Cardinal Danielou, in Shadows to Reality, describes how prophecy is nothing other than the typological interpretation of history.

But it's not just started in the New, it's already begun in the Old.

Yeah, the later parts of the Old Testament read the early parts of the New Testament typologically.

Right.

I mean, it's quite difficult to understand the language through the translation because, I mean, when you read Danielou's translation, which is the translation that you recommended as the one to use for this and the best that we have in English, it seems like for now.

Can you give us an idea of what it feels like to read it in the Sanskrit? I mean, is it funny? Is it poetic?

Not really funny, but very pleasant.

But not all the texts infer that that was the case.

There's a wonderful book written a long time ago by Jean Danielou called The Primitive Church and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

And it's really interesting how he interprets the whole Essene impact on early Christianity.

But the fact of the matter was it wasn't locked in.
