Je Tsongkhapa

Mm.

Uh, say, mm, as a special, or say, a special practice in the Lama Tsong Khapa tradition that- At the beginning of, at the at the beginning of sadhana, then I have been doing beginning sadhana with the brief meditation trikaya.

So this way- Mm.

I would purify on the ordinary, uh, which, uh, say, uh, the, the practice preparation, like build a potential to purify the, um, the, the, the preliminary seed to purify the, uh, ordinary death and intermediate state rebirth.

How you get that direction? Through the compass.

So Lama Tsongkhapa, for me, is...

I will not say the scholar, I will not say the yogi.

He's a compass.

So Rinpoche, I thought tonight we're gonna talk a little bit about the yogic life of Tsongkhapa.

But I thought to start with this idea that you have now become the abbot of Gyuto Tantric Monastery.

By the merit of having offered this mandala to the merit field, may I and all sentient beings be able to need the pure wisdom teachings, victorious ones, which contain the biographies of those eminent ones who live in pure morality, have the brave attitude to follow extensively what is at this conduct, and practice yoga with the two stages, the essence of which is the transcendental wisdom of non-jogless and voidness.

May I and all sentient beings be able to need this pure, complete teaching of Lama Tsongkhapa, the unification of sutra and tantra, right this second.

So, there's something that happened on the topic of the guru.

He is practicing what I mentioned, the deep wisdom, and he lost that.

There's no protection.

So by looking at it ordinarily, then the total mistakes arises, anger arises, heresy arises.

Or you seek, as I mentioned the other day, Lama Tsongkhapa explained in the Lama Simo that just thought, just thought, thinking the Guru is ordinary, it causes to lose the realization, the experience you have gained, you know.

Even just think that it's an ordinary being.

I'm also part of a larger project that was just announced on the Dalai Lama's birthday to translate the entire collected works.

This runs to 19 volumes in Tibetan, 26 volumes in English, of Tsongkhapa Dosang Drakpa, who was the founder of the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, the one that spawned, among other things, the institution of the Dalai Lama.

And this is interesting because it's going to be done I mean, there's people like me who are scholars involved.

Also Thubten Jinpa is involved, who's famous as a translator for the Dalai Lama.

So with each deity, you have to do preliminary like that.

[clears throat] In the Lama Tsongkhapa tradition, [clears throat] um, uh, that the prelim-- Lama Tsongkhapa tradition, the preliminary is something that you sh- you do every day, you know, all, all the time, every day.

[clears throat] And, uh, among the, among the, how to say it? Every day, say something to do every day.

It's, it's a practice every day.

So, [clears throat] so that.

So anyway, [clears throat] so there's, so there's the, the, uh, mm.

So there's the Lama Tsong- the Lama Tsongkhapa's tradition, tradition, [clears throat] the advice of the traditional way to live.

[clears throat] On the, on the basis of, [clears throat] the lay or ordained, however, uh, the pure, how to say? Moral-- living the pure morality, samaya.

And I'd go to the teachings and try to get these little bite-sized morsels that I could do.

He's doing, uh, mind training like Rays of the Sun, uh, Gyud lineage version, Tsongkhapa of the Seven-Point Mind Training.

And there's some practical things in there about, uh, really being helpful towards others, bodhichitta and compassion.

I learned how to do that as a school teacher, and it was helpful.

This vast amount of literature, it can be com-- uh, put into one shloka.

Once, uh, Singe Swami, he told me the skill of the teacher is to compress the ocean into drop, and the drop, and the, to expand the drop into the ocean.

Sindhu into bindu, bindu into Sindhu.

Sindhu, ocean.

Due to the merits of the three times collected by me, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and all the sentient beings, may all the sons and daughters of the Buddha of compassion, all the beings, all our virtuous friends have a stable life, and may all the holy wishes succeed immediately.

Due to the merit of the three times collected by me, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and all the sentient beings, may I be able to offer skies of every benefit to all sentient beings as Lama Tsongkhapa does.

May I have within me the same qualities as Lama Tsongkhapa has through now in all my future lifetimes.

And due to the merit of the three times collected by me, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and all the sentient beings, which are totally resistant from their own side, may the I, which is also totally resistant from his own side, achieve Guru Shakyamuni Buddha's enlightenment, which is also totally resistant from his own side.

And lead all sentient beings who are totally resistant from their own side to that enlightenment which is totally resistant from his own side.

By myself alone, who is also totally resistant from his own side.

I dedicate all my merits in the way greatly admired by the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the three times and realized by Samantabhadra and Vajrapani.

May I be able to completely actualize Lama Tsongkhapa's teaching, which unifies Sutra and Tantra with my mind, and spread this teaching in the minds of all sentient beings.

Paul could not help glancing above toward the mysterious regions with which this eccentric stairway communicated.
