And he actually was awarded $15,000 by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee after the war for having done this intelligence work.

So first of all, we have had a very close relationship with a, with a number of hospitals, uh, both in Jerusalem, um, Shaare Zedek, and also Tel Hashomer, of course, and, uh, others, and they know about what we're doing, and they recognize that when the soldiers leave the, um, I wouldn't call it the comfort of the hospital environment, but the supportive, rehabilitative feeling of a, of a hospital and go home, Beit Issie can be v- there for them to do a personal evaluation.

The other thing is, is that we, once we'd launched the program, we began and went into partnership with JDC, with The Joint, who we've partnered with before in the field of disabilities, and also with, uh, Restart Global, which is an organization that also works with many, many soldiers, with wounded soldiers, and has a large volunteer network there.

So Beit Issie always believes that partnerships Are the way to go, and we can reach more people and have greater, deeper impact by partnering, uh, with all kinds of organization and institutions when we're all heading in the same direction.

And in providing these solutions, is it-- what is the process like? Is it a one-off meeting and, uh, m- seeing what the individual needs and helping them adjust their home so they can have that autonomy and independence, or also, depending on the circumstances, they might be an ongoing relationship?

As head of the relief organization, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Levitt was intimately familiar with the needs of survivors.

Only three years earlier, he had toured DP camps in Germany and filmed survivors with his own camera.
