We grew up in the same small town outside of Kansas City, Smithville, Missouri.

Jace Tingler played professionally for a period of time, and then he's gone on to have a really, really great career as a coach.

But he gave me a call, I was in the middle of that second summer playing independent ball, and he asked if I wanted to come to a place called the Dominican Republic, and I didn't know where that was on the map at that point in time, and I didn't speak any Spanish, so I didn't really pursue it.

I told him no, and about two weeks later I was talking on the phone with my mom and dad, and I was like, hey, by the way, this kind of came up, and my dad was like, You might want to do some self-eval.
