What do you feel about my theory of there being a new mindset in Boulder?

Yeah, no, a hundred percent.

And funny enough, you say that this reminds me a hundred percent of the TCU game, his first career coaching game.

This was the, everybody said TCU's coming off the national championship game.

They're going to beat the crap out of Colorado.

Why are we even, why are we even playing this game? Like, does this make any sense to play this game? And they go out there and they pull off what they pulled off, which is, you know, the quote unquote miraculous victory.

And then, of course, the ceiling interception by Travis Hunter, which is awesome that Boo Carter gets the ceiling block punt.

What do you think, Jay?

And so do you think Coach Prime and Colorado, or am I reaching here, do you think they've made a concentrated effort to not be, I guess, talking as much this offseason?

Yeah, so I didn't really take that from that presser when I was watching it.

It was really, to me, around the aspect of them playing against each other in practice, and they're tired of hitting each other.

They're ready to play something different.

Because before that, Prime made this point.

I thought this was very interesting.

He was talking about how...

I said this yesterday and I'll say it a little bit later, but it feels very 2023 TCU like for Colorado.

I could see that as well.

That makes sense to me.

For me, the calmness is what I'm looking for out of Julian.

Having command of the offense, taking his time.

I mean, even though you're in the go-go, you're going to be go-going, but looking like you're in command of everything that's going around you and knowing that you're gonna have a lot of family and friends in town.

You're gonna have a lot of your village, your supporting cast is gonna be there because they're in Georgia.

I'm going to say you're right

And I always, I always talk with superintendents and electricians and engineers throughout my entire career here, here and as well as other, other companies about how you operate a system reliably when, you know, you talk about under the terms of the National Electric Code, continuous use being, like, four hours.

Well, solar's operating maximum capacity in the summertime, what, eight, 10 hours, right? That, that is thermal stress that typically is not accounted for.

NEC doesn't protect you from that.

Inverter manufacturers say, "Oh, that's great." But when you're landing cables, connectors, it's har- it's in the environment, the fan may be broken, there's dust in the filters, whatever, you're, you're gonna have issues.

And, and it starts with component failure.

It starts with fans breaking, and then it, and then it propagates to capacitors blowing, IGBTs failing, and it's all a thermal situation.

They're just lower efficiency [laughs] compared to today.

I will be going through four areas.

Your, your desire to put something together that is, that a, that a layman can understand, uh, you've achieved that, and I think, I think that's what you're getting at.

Jay, walk me through your thoughts about all of this.

I thought that was a very funny statement to make because, one, I do agree.

They're going to probably run like crazy.

That was Colorado's challenge against Georgia Tech in 2025, in which Colorado lost that game 27-20.

Georgia Tech did run for 320 yards.

We know that that was an issue.

That is something that Coach Marv emphasized a lot, especially with his time at Virginia Tech.

They're acting like they've won the championship last year, and they didn't accomplish anything.

And maybe that's just 'cause we like the information, but it-

I would say what we learned year one, we learned a lot of things, but probably the big takeaway is thinking you know how your cows use a range versus knowing how your cows use a range is two very different things.

And probably our biggest learning curve was w- where to put fences so that we weren't interrupting natural movements, natural trails.

For an example, the very, the very first fence, we're on the BLM, so we put the fence on the BLM boundary.

Well, there was a, a gradient that they had to touch a little bit of Forest Service to get to a water trough and, and we had struggles with that.

And once we saw what the issue was, adjusted the fence a little bit to let them have their natural trail.

Everything flowed.

But since then, how have grazing plans adapted?

Jay, is Quentin Gibson too small? Uh, what do you think of this whole ordeal?

I mean, I thought it was very interesting that that has been the thing everyone has harped on for Colorado for a bit.

They went nine games, you know, a couple years ago, and that was the thing is, "Oh, they're so small.

They're so much little.

They're smaller than everybody else." They went out and won nine games.

So I'm assuming that because the last time everybody really harped on it was 2024, they should be able to bounce back and do that again in 2026 and use that size against everybody and actually win some games.

But yes, statistically, if you go top to bottom in the Big 12, Colorado is the shortest and the, weight-wise, the smallest, uh, on average.

Mm-hmm

No one wants to see the San Francisco peaks up in flames.

Yeah, we have.

So we've done a lot of work in the city of Flagstaff, done a lot of work around the community itself.

And we're still looking and looking at communities.

And we have a community welfare protection plan that's putting in place to help communities.

But what we're looking at from a flood control district is we've, we've dealt with the Schultz fire, the pipeline fire.

We've had the museum fire, massive post-fire flooding where we spent hundreds of millions of dollars in, in trying to get the watershed back to where it won't flood communities and homes.

How are we funding this?

Why are we doing this? It's absurd that they even think that.

We're doing it because colleges have gotten away doing other stupid things and the NCAA is taking their revenge where they can.

That's what's happening.

It's culture over rules and law.

And it's stupid.

It's pointless and it's pathetic.

And yet, had we not had all the stupidity of everyone and their mother looking out for how do I get another year of eligibility somewhere, we wouldn't have this going on.

Yeah.

We want it.

Yeah, I mean, that's the whole point of hiring a coach.

Your job is to go win those games and make sure that fans are locked and loaded and ingrained and they are invested in the team in November.

That is the most important time of the year.

You want to make sure that there are playoff implications for your games or that you're at least going to a bowl game and there's Big 12 championship implications in all your games.

teams want double digit win seasons.

And so prime is going to have to get back to a nine win season.

Do you think there's any sort of that messaging here as Fernando Lovo? Like, do you sense the belief with him?

17-4, but yeah, I

think 21-1.

Unfortunately, the defense fell apart, but we'll talk about them in a minute because new stat.

But I say for Oklahoma, I think what the biggest benefit for the Sooners going into this game really is is that the entire defense is basically all internal retained players that they recruited.

So it's their homegrown guys is the best way to say it.

And that's why if things start clicking, that's going to be a major problem for Mississippi State in this game.

Yes.

The level of petty and the angst you may have.

But when he came over, he fits really a good mold of what Brent Venables looks for in what you call his cheetah role.

Um, at that size, 6'4", 6'5"-ish, 240, 245 on his, on his biggest days.

A guy that's fast enough to play safety and versatile enough to play linebacker while also hitting hard enough to be an edge.

It's a three-phase position that Brent Venables has created.

Like, perfect...

So when we talk about what he's going to be in the NFL from your perspective, what are you expecting from Kendal Daniels? Are you seeing him as a guy that can come in and contribute right away on special teams, add some depth, grow into a potential starter role? Do you see that type of upside with him?

Mm-hmm.

Former head coaching position, and then you bring him in to be your offensive coordinator.

You hire Chris Marve as your linebacker coach, and then the perfect opportunity comes up with, uh, Rob Livingston leaving to go to the NFL, go to the Broncos, and he can now run the defense, in which he did a really good job in the ACC when he did the him and Brent Pry.

So to me, it's a w- he did everything you're supposed to do to fix a problem, the problems that he had.

He got a dude that is a savant at the, on the offense, and he got a really solid defensive coordinator that's now here, and with both guys really ready to prove themselves to the college football world.

Brenden Marion wants to be a head coach in the P4, period.

Like, he wants to be like a Lincoln Riley.

So let's just talk about the impact that having him will give Colorado and losing him would impact Colorado.

Jay, what, what do you make of like the blowback that Colorado's getting? Is this just like another opportunity for people to jump on Colorado or is this warranted?

Yeah, it, it's a combination of warranted and just a great opportunity to, uh, see red meat.

That's what it is.

[laughs] Like this is red meat for animals.

They're just seeing it and they're like, "Yeah, we're gonna jump all over this," because Prime is always a conversation piece.

Like, he's a good centerpiece of conversation, he's a great person to criticize because people just enjoy doing it.

And so, yeah, that, he sh- Julian shouldn't have said it.

First one in the building, last one to leave." Do you feel more confident about where Colorado is now as opposed to where they were on December 1st?

What's unknown to you guys?

The biggest unknown for Oklahoma right now is a combination of one, the health of John Mateer, as you mentioned, right? He actually talked about it a couple of times, a couple of interviews he's done.

He went and he met with Josh Allen's biometric specialist, Chris Hess, And Chris has, they basically took three-dimensional videos of his throwing and they ran it through the data and they've been working on his mechanics to get him back to what he was because when he did injure his thumb, he leaned more heavily on his sidearm because he said it was like throwing a baseball missing two fingers.

He couldn't grip it underneath to get the throw right.

So he was using his hands to contort it, to hold it properly and keep it secure and get the ball launched.

And so now he's trying to get back to even his Washington State capabilities and an improved version of that.

So yeah, Mateer and his health critical and in reading defenses with that.

We're excited for

And I kind of wonder if one of those guys might get on the playing field as a freshman.

Yeah, no, that is very much a possibility.

When I even look at Oklahoma's roster, like interior guys like them, you've got a couple of guys that could have the size, maybe a Brian Harris, maybe a Tank Carrington.

Tank, as they've said, that he's been putting on a lot of weight since he's got there at 6'2", 6'3"-ish.

He may end up being over 3'15 by the start of next season and still maintain his power and his speed.

So he could end up being another stuffer as well.

But no, Falila is... was a fascinating one.

What are your thoughts on the Michigan

What?

No.

That never happened.

The consensus was great.

Because that's exactly what this is, man.

They had fought tooth and nail.

That's the game I'm circling that I go, well, your third string quarterback better be ready to roll because it is going to be loud.

Community meetings with federal wildlife officials and residents often devolved into screaming matches.

Those meetings were tense, and they were not fun.

We can get in those mixed groups now and have more logical, more level-headed conversations than we could back then, but it was, it was very tense.

It was very stressful at that point in time.

He says part of the tension was due to government dishonesty.

We had officials at public meetings tell us that wolves would not eat cattle, that elk was their food source, and so that they were not gonna eat our cattle.

This government official told us that over and over and over again.

And I looked him in the eye, and I said, "Are you telling me that when they're hungry, they're gonna pick a smart, fast elk over a slow, dumb cow?" You know, we just got fed a bunch of bull, and that was frustrating.

as well this is getting nasty jay i mean this is not a sunny day where two friends are having a cordial conversation this feels more like no the rain is coming down and the boxing gloves are on but i don't know how much longer they're going to be on those hands

Yeah, this is a very interesting argument.

I think the funniest part is seeing all the Texas Tech fans clamor around and defend this entire situation as if it's something that's normally happened before.

Do we not recall what happened to Iowa State's player, Sam Decker? Hunter Deckers, yeah, Hunter Deckers.

Yeah, Deckers.

Yeah, I remember what happened there, how it went down.

Yeah, those guys got kicked out.

this just looks so bad

Like, if you take them away, who's gonna watch what's left?

I mean, that's the question.

If you, if it's watched now, it'll be watched then.

We are addicted to football.

We watch all kinds of ridiculous football.

Go look at some of the UFL numbers.

They may not be the highest, but they high enough to where they still doing it.

They're gonna go, "We're not paying for this."

When this first all came out, did you have a big reaction? 'Cause I did not.

Absolutely not.

The minute it was sent to me, my co-host John over there at Locked On sooner shot me the tweet, and I looked at it, I'm like, "Oh, Oregon is just doing this on principle." Like, do they need the money? No.

But it's one thing that I say Oregon's not wrong for this.

You have a debt, you pay said debt.

And they even came to an agreement that if you pay it early, we knock 10,000 off.

Now, this is the thing that was funny about it when I read it, Spencer, is that he paid them, like, 29K, which is 10,000 less than the agreed-upon number, which is 10,000 less from the actual buyout number.

What's the deal with Oklahoma? What's their biggest strength heading into this season?

Oh man, that's always a, a tough question for us Sooner fans is, uh, figuring out what is gonna be...

No, honestly our biggest strength is definitely gonna be that defensive line once again.

I think that we did just exactly what we needed to do in maintaining the, the depth, the competitive depth that we needed there.

Uh, a lot of players that have been in the system for the last three years, which is very helpful.

You've got, you know, with Jay Jackson, David Stone right there in the interior.

Uh, the guys right behind them, Nigel Smith's been in the system for three years as well.

Yeah, absolutely.
