thing yes So at 7 p.m. tonight, we're doing a tribute to Jay Maisel.

So we've got a tribute.

We've got Joe McNally is going to be joining us.

And that notion that if we're willing to give that time to other photographers, we end up in a much more sort of, again, creative space in a deeper relationship with photography and a deeper relationship with what makes work interesting and engaging.

You know, the great Jay Maisel passed away a couple of weeks ago.

You know, Jay used to always say, "If you wanna take more interesting photographs, be a more interesting person." And I think part of the steps to doing that is also understanding what makes interesting stories, because the reality is, if you go talk to other artists, painters look at other painters.

Writers read.

And so a lot of times I think photographically, it's that same of like, I'm going to carry the camera with me, whether I'm inspired or not.

You know, Jay Maisel talked about always have a camera with you.

My friend David up on the Island where I live, David's always got his camera.

Every time I see David, he's got his camera and it's, it's both inspirational.

This feels like everything I've been working for is coming together.

I've done quite a few posts over on Patreon and my Inspired series this week focused on Jay Maisel.

Endless inspiration, a lot of photography.

I don't know anything about his personal background, you know, as a man and who he was.

I'd like to make that a part of our Let's Talk series on the podcast that we have every fortnight.

We have got some big names coming, which we'll get to in a minute.

But Jay Maisel is someone I'm looking deeper into at the moment.

That part, I mean, as much as people were kind of, losing their minds and how exciting it was to shoot a model there was also a good camaraderie and younger participants being helped by some old older apparently pros helping them set the camera and everything so i did see that too so that was that was good

I did want to acknowledge the passing of a photographer who some people may not have heard of, a photographer, Jay Maisel, who died in the past week.

I can't remember the day, but 95.

Yeah.

And maybe we will.

Maybe I want to pick up one of his books and we can go through it.

But I want to use him sort of as a jumping off point a little bit for someone who is like, I might have said this before, but like there isn't a Jay Maisel style.

But there is.

Yes

Uh, photographer Jay Maisel has passed away at the age of 95.

Very sad.

I mean, you know, 95 is a, is a long life.

And, I mean, Jay Maisel, why I was sad was, I mean, this...

He's an icon.

Like, growing up, Jay Maisel was a pre-eminent street photographer, fashion photographer.

He did beautiful color work.

I met Jay Maisel in nineteen eighty-six when I was just twenty-three years old.

I was working as an editor at Photo District News.

On assignment, camera in hand, tasked with snapping party pictures at an industry event.

I don't remember if I said anything.

However, I was already in awe of him and thrilled just to have him notice me.
