Who are we? Who are we for? And what is this place going to be in 20 years? Today's guest is Jay Karen, Chief Executive Officer of the National Golf Course Owners Association, which represents 4,200 courses across every kind of ownership in the country.

What I appreciated about this conversation is that Jay wouldn't let me set private clubs up as the ones who are behind, and he makes the case that good ideas move in both directions.

Then he gets specific about where clubs should be paying closer attention, what it costs to become a commodity, and what a club owes the community, and finally, how to build something that outlasts whoever happens to be holding the wheel.
