Jarred Kelenic

I give Colt a D-, and that honestly might just be because he was a top 10 prospect entering this season.

And he gave me hope when he hit the home run over Jared Kelenic's head and signed his contract extension.

Everything else was bad.

And next year for Colt is essentially, I think it'd just have to be a repeat of this season, except with better performance.

Sorry, they traded Linden Sosa to the Blue Jays about 13 games into the season.

They dropped Kelenic by the end of May.

They traded Derek Hill to the Phillies.

They got rid of, you wanna call 'em dead weight? Let's call 'em dead weight.

Who is the lefty from the Mariners? The highly touted prospect.

Who's on the team this year? Kelenic.

Jared Kelenic.

Yeah, Kelenic.

Jared.

Oh, Jared.

...

Jared Kelenic's head.

That was a fun one.

That was a good one.

By the way, not just as a big league coach, 'cause he was a big league coach from '22 through '25, but he also managed the Rainiers back in 2021.

And when he managed the Rainiers, he managed Kelenic, he managed Logan Gilbert, he managed Cal, he managed a lot of this core.

So he knows these guys.

And by no fault of his own, he's been good enough at his job where he's stayed in the big leagues for a while and now has gotten a promotion to the Pirates.

Brutal deal.

2019, the Mets trade Jared Kelenic, who was one of the best prospects in baseball at the time, and Justin Dunn, who was a recent first-round pick, along with a, a bunch of contracts for Edwin Diaz and Robinson Cano.

Now, people forget, I don't even need to do the revisionist history on that trade.

I know people will say the Edwin Diaz trade is, is, or, you know, it's now the Edwin Diaz trade, it's a good one.

That's my kind of hunch.

Um, and then the other thing too, you see Jared Kelenic here as the first player who's going after this run of college bats that you mentioned.

The, the thing that stands out to me, maybe the biggest over- overriding theme of this 2018 class for me, and in hindsight now it really stands out, this was a massively well-regarded high school pitching class.

Um, at the time I was covering it, I remember, so it would've been 2017, was the summer circuit for these players.
