Jar of Hearts

So I got older and braver, but I think really it took Keltie believing in me first, um, and making me play shows and making me, um, give people my music or record my music even, 'cause no one had heard.

I wrote Jar of Hearts, um, December 29th, 2009.

Oh, that's so good.

So she knew how big So You Think You Can Dance was, and I didn't.

So she was like, "Maybe one day you can play this on your show." And then Stacey was like, "How about Wednesday?" And that was June 30th, 2010.

Jar of Hearts, this, the demo that I made got played on the show, and then I flew to New York City the next day, got a record deal.

Like, it was-

I need that money for rent."

We heard that story from Christina Perri's perspective of Jar of Hearts and how, you know, if I'm not mistaken, you essentially brought that song to the producers of So You Think-

Yeah

...

You Can Dance, which then blew up her song and career.

From your perspective being the friend, how did that all happen from your side?

It was so crazy.

[laughs]

And Christina was writing songs all along as a singer-songwriter.

And she wrote a song called Jar of Hearts.

And then her friend Kelty had something to do with the show So You Think You Can Dance, I believe.

And they needed someone to come on and play a song on the show.

And Christina comes on and plays Jar of Hearts.

Which, by the way, was written not too far from where I live in Fishtown.

It's a song about a guy who broke her heart and collects a jar of hearts.
