First verse of the Guru Granth Sahib, that is in the first volume, the first chapter, the first verse in the Guru Granth, which is called as the Japuji.

And it says, Almighty God, He is only one.

He is true.

Eternal truth is its name.

You know, there's so many people who grow up listening to Japji Sahib who don't know what it means.

And these are now people in their 40s, 50s, 60s.

I get parents coming to me all the time saying, I know Japji Sahib off by heart, but my kids are asking me what it means and I don't know what to tell them.

But I just want my kids to learn how to repeat it as well.

And they're saying they don't want to learn that unless they know what it means.

I spent my early childhood in India, moved to the UK when I was eight years old and grew up in a Gursikh family.

So we always had a relationship with Gurdwara, with Sangat.

And all that time, there was no talking.

It was, you're gonna recite Japji Sahib.

And our parents, that's how they just kind of taught us.

So we memorized Japji Sahib.

And there was, from a very young age, a very clear understanding that Japji Sahib, if you know nothing else, you've gotta know this.

And it wasn't until much, much later that I actually started to look at what the meanings of Jebji Saib are.

You're very familiar with it, that you hear it all the time.

You know the verses so well that you somehow convince yourself that you also know what it means.
