And the fact that we were going to originally be talking at Capclay, and here we are talking in July, and there's an aspect of the book really only just a few weeks away from the death of Jane Yolen.

She was wonderful.

What happened

And I went to the Nebula... meeting where, you know, where they were going to give out the prizes for that.

Then you have a baby and you start reading these gorgeous picture books.

My daughter, Johanna, was telling me how she discovered the book Owl Moon by Jane Yolen.

And I was like, you know, we read that when you were a kid.

She's like, what?

And when you jot down a story idea from something funny that has happened to you, try to give it a bigger story.

And, you know, I've been talking a lot about Jane Yolen lately, who was a great mentor.

And she was famous for saying, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

And today I'm coming to you with a deeply personal episode as I pay tribute to the late, great Jane Yolen.

author of more than 450 books for children, Jane was a singular talent, a master of her craft, and a legend.

Jane's loss is monumental to so many people, And one thing I want to say up front is that I don't have this episode scripted because I really wanted it to come from my heart.

They felt timeless and brand new.

And that was all down to the way she used language.

Every time I want to be inspired by what the English language can do, I pick up a Jane Yolen book.

Seriously, you will never be disappointed.

It won a Caldecott Medal and has just been a wonderful classic book.

The book is by Jane Yolen and illustrated by John Schoenherr.

And it is just a fabulous book.

And the medal was received in 1988.
