Jane Elliott

Just so much good stuff.

Jane Elliott, oh my God, Against the World.

So long story short is pre-Christmas, Christmas is a great time to binge on things.

But how do you get your Christmas off to the right start? Especially for those people who have the Christmas or the holiday season is an awkward time for them because either they're living in a place where there's no family, where they're single or whatever it is.

[laughs]

I love Jane Elliott.

Ooh, y'all love a Jane Elliott experiment?

I love Jane Elliott.

I love Jane Elliott down.

When you made that joke, literally Billy goes, "That was the funniest thing I've heard in a while."

[laughs]

So back in the 60s, this was after Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated.

There was a third grade teacher named Jane Elliott.

I think this happened in Iowa somewhere in the Middle West who like did this interesting exercise in social engineering where she divided the kids into the blue eyed kids and the brown eyed kids.

And I'm probably butchering this somehow.

But that's neither here nor there.

If you don't know Jane Elliott, go read her work.

So back in 2021, I was approached by another Black librarian whose name is Megan Rose.

She was the guest editor of that specific issue of Knowledge

It's an amazing journey and pivot to get all these things into one place, which is essentially the brand and your life now and how it's... gosh all these things you've been through and you're kind of almost back to where you started you know fighting for the good folk living in an area of love and you know your kids are doing the stuff you used to do you know life's crazy right

yeah every day you know there's a huge amount of gratitude there yeah I you know there was a woman With the clothing, by the way, there was an amazing activist in America called Jane Elliott.

She had this jumper on that said, there's only one race, the human race.

And I felt like she'd articulated what I always felt so well.

...

if you're doing media and so on, is that fabulous educator, Jane Elliott.

Have you ever seen or heard of her?

Fortunately, I haven't heard of her, no.
