And Jan Werner Muller was talking to the London Review of Books about the recent AFD victory in Germany.

And he points out that the person whose name I forget now, who leads the AFD in this part of Germany, did deliver a very positive message to the people who elected them.

I mean, if you look at some of what happens at Europe's borders, how cruelty is to some degree just outsourced to Libya and the Libyan Coast Guard, without anybody really wanting to talk about this, it's very hard to say that everybody else could necessarily be placed on the moral high ground, given what they actually tolerate.

We've been discussing two things, his recent essay in Foreign Policy magazine, but I should point out Jan-Werner's also got a new book out.

It's called Street Palace Square, The Architecture of Democratic Spaces.

It essentially talks about how physical space of cities in particular can shape movements for democracy.
