James S. White

White experienced supernatural phenomena while in vision.

In 1868, James White gave a detailed description of Ellen White's state during a vision.

She was utterly unconscious of everything transpiring around her.

She did not breathe, her muscles became rigid and her joints fixed.

After coming out of vision, she would temporarily lose sight, yet her eyesight was not impaired.

No one could control when or how long she would be in vision, as the visions were usually unexpected by Ellen White herself.

As in biblical times, the reaction of people to the messages varied.

Why would you do that? People sacrifice their health, their time, their relationships just because they wanna stay busy.

Maybe you remember the story of Gehazi that we studied a couple months ago.

H- you remember that story of Gehazi, the guy who was running too? He was actually running after materialism.

Remember that? There was a man who professed to be a Christian, who professed to be a follower of God.

There was a former sea captain, his name was Joseph Bates.

He studied the topic of the Sabbath and became fully convinced that that was the day to worship God on, and a lot of people were doing it.

I told you about another woman named Rachel Oaks, remember that a couple months ago? Who actually went to another preacher and told him straight up in the face, "You can't be celebrating communion until you start keeping God's commandments, because you're not keeping the Sabbath." So many people in 19th centuries, they, they, their eyes got opened, and they discovered the truth about the Sabbath, and so was Joseph Bates, so he published a tract about the Sabbath in August of 1846.

And then there was a group of believers somewhere else, they didn't know each other, listen carefully, and they analyzed scripture, and they found out that the Bible talks about a sanctuary in heaven that was cleansed in 1844.
