So what do you think's behind?

Look, I think, unfortunately, as farmers and agronomists, as always, we're at the mercy of the weather.

And if you look at the growing season of winter barley, As I touched on earlier on in our conversation, Siobhan, people are sowing winter barley earlier, right? We have a lot of BYDV-tolerant varieties on the recommended list.

They're very popular amongst farmers.

Obviously, BYDV was a huge issue for a long time.

We don't have great chemical options for control.

So when we had that sort of, I suppose, silver bullet for BYDV, it probably did push people to sown earlier.

What way is spring barley or spring oats looking, James?

How did you meet him?

Jum and I were at Wesley College at Sydney University together for three years in the mid-80s.

He was studying vet science.

I was studying law.

We'd been to the same school, actually, Canberra Grammar, but I was a year ahead of him and I took a year off.

He was my first friend there and my best friend there.

I don't know if I was his best friend.

Tell me about your last visit with John.

The lick of

paint, we're okay.

We did some work years ago on heating.

We put in gas heaters, which would hatch chickens for you.

When they're going well, turn them off.

There's no insulation we're talking about on it.

So we really want to invigorate it and bring it back, bring it to a new level.

Tell us more about that.

What's that journey been like for you? And what good has been made of a bad situation?

It's tragic seeing a friend go through this disease.

And usually when you've got a dying friend, most people are going to have a dying friend.

And if you never have one, that probably means you are going to be one, unfortunately.

Usually there's not much you can do except bake him some banana bread.

And I'm pretty crap at baking.

Here there was something I could do.

What have you learned about conversations with those suffering from the disease when you're aware that it might be your last conversation?
