Can I just confirm we did all read the massive one and not the thin little target one? That one.

Just, you need to commit if you're going to do all of that.

You've got the best part there, you know? Yeah.

Well, let me swing us around to the Pirate Planet then by James Gossett.

Michael, will you do the usual, please, and tell me how on earth did this all come about? Do you know?

Yeah.

The one thing that rescued her for me is Louise Jameson.

She is acting for everybody on that story.

Trouble is, it kind of dispenses with the interesting characters after the first episode.

Three have already been published.

That was James Goss' novelization of The Pirate Planet and David Fisher's renovelizations of The Stones of Blood and The Androids of Tara.

James Goss and Rob Shearman have teamed up And they are covering the remaining three books.

So that will be six key to time renovelizations, all in the same volume.

And Rob was kind enough to share with us an excerpt from The Power of Kroll, which is coming out later in 2026.

Yeah, it's a weird project.

I mean, and I can understand why people will be suspicious of it.

But what... what happened i'll tell you very very quickly how i became aware of it i was i bumped into james goss who was out working when i was and he told me he was writing the armageddon factor and i said to him why and he said well it's interesting because i found i've gone back through and i'm now novelizing the original scripts by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, which are very, very little to do with what was broadcast.

Um, here's some exciting thing.

Chris, you're gonna miss this when you're in the UK, but, uh, there's another Riverside Studios screening, uh, with Gav Rimal and, and James Goss.

They've put on a couple of these in the past, uh, where they watch old Doctor Who episodes and then talk about them.

This time, they're talking about The Underwater Menace, episodes two and three, and The Faceless Ones, episodes one and three, of course, the existing episodes of both those stories.

I know everything because of Doctor Who in recent years because of Gav Rimal and James Goss-

Yeah, I'm not slagging this at all

I always put the book down to laugh every five minutes.

James Goss is such a brilliant writer on that front.

In terms of having fun with what's on the page, and so I don't mean the writing, but the fun, quirky bits that happen in that book.

I had not read a book like that for Doctor Who since Jim Mortimer's campaign.

yeah and it matches the tv so his tv story is absolutely as wild as it can be it's pushing him yeah it is whatever you think can happen no that can happen that's impossible nope that's happening we're going there we're doing that And again, that's perfect, kind of perfect meeting of the writer and the material as well.

It just pushes it somewhere completely new, completely fresh.

And James Goss is so good at that kind of medium thing.

Even his Torch novel does it.

Oh, I get it.

wasn't really, I think I just probably, I wasn't involved in that really.

I think I just, that was probably a James Goss one.

And I did a lot of what we call online editing for him.

So he was, he would sort of shoot the programs himself or get a cameraman in and he would, he could edit, but he couldn't finish.

He couldn't get it to sort of the sort of slick finished product.

And so that's very common in TV.

and so what the tv programs go to the what they call the online edit and i would do that for james goss so i didn't i wasn't involved in the in in that program at all other than being the online editor but there were a few of those which i did for james um where he'd just hand me the product at the end, and I would just tidy it up for him, basically.

But certainly the trials and tribulations was maybe the best of my programs, some would say.

However, there is a new... 853 page, if I recall correctly, novelization of the Key to Time season coming out, featuring all new material.

James Goss' recent renovelization of the Pirate Planet as Douglas Adams, David Fisher's two renovelizations of Stones of Blood and Androids of Tara, and now James Goss and Rob Shearman are going back and doing new novelizations for the Rebus operation, based on the original scripts.

Power of Curl, which Rob Shearman is lending his considerable talents to.

And then James Goss is novelizing the original scripts for Armageddon Factor, which were changed dramatically before getting to television.

Amazing.

So you'll be seeing the end of the Key to Time season as it was originally envisioned by all parties involved, including Bob Baker and Dave Martin.
