What are some of your favorite moments from

that? The Abyss was a very unique moment in cinematic history because it was a time at which James Cameron wanted to know If CG really had a place in future productions, he had written in the sequence into the abyss, which involved the pseudopod, as you well know, but he had structured the script in such a fashion that if we fell flat on our face, he could jettison the sequence and not harm the basics of the movie.

And so that was unique.

And then going down to where they were actually doing their physical production, down to the Carolinas, they had taken over an abandoned nuclear power plant, and Jim and his production crew had organized it in such a fashion that it was an underwater shooting studio.

And it was the most fascinating thing I'd ever seen.

To top it all off, he, James Cameron, was not only the... um director of the movie he was also the transportation captain he made sure he had the keys to every truck and vehicle on the lot so if anybody wanted to escape and go home they didn't ask him first and he always said no so he had people down there that were trapped until he got done with his picture now that's a director wow Yeah.

But it was a phenomenal film, and it was a phenomenal undertaking.

It's just the way they did it was just so damn unique and had so many challenges.

i understand that james cameron's going to europa to see if there's anything that's at the bottom of the ocean that he can uh somehow make a movie out of so that should be

How about you take what if you slimmed it down a little bit? Steven Soderbergh has talked about that with Solaris, that he had a cut of it that was like 80 minutes long.

And James Cameron was like, this is too short.

Like this does not work.

It's like abstract to the point of not being able to make any emotional connection with what's going on.

I don't think it

really works.

What does work is an excellent commentary between Steven Soderbergh and James Cameron that's on the DVD and Blu-ray release.

I remember my parents talking about them or waiting for it to come out on, I think, Channel 7 of ABC.

uh before uh that where a whole bunch of like newer movies would come on on like a sunday night um i remember them watch it or borrowing the video from wherever and um and i remember when i was i guess in my like teens it was one of the uh i think usa and i'm watching it going like is this alien alien like i couldn't tell is the ending to alien which i had never seen but it's where spoiler alert guys where the alien uh where ripley opens the hatch and releases the alien into space but like it's sitting there billion was sleeping it opened its mouth and the other little mouth came out and it yawned and i still will always have that Like, who thought that it needs to yawn so it opens both mouths? That probably was all James Cameron.

No, but that was in the first Alien.

It's been a while since I've seen the first Alien, so yeah, you're probably right on that.

They definitely should not.

And yeah, we'll get more into ways of trying to get her back into the franchise in recent years.

But with Aliens, it was James Cameron.

I believe he had signed on to do it before Terminator came out.
