So what are investors looking to hear from Carney and his sales team?
10:18
I think you can probably split that into two categories.
10:21
One of them is they want to understand how the environment for investing, the business environment in Canada may be changing and may be getting a little bit more attractive.
10:32
So they wanna hear, are we gonna be competitive on taxes? Is it gonna get easier to get projects permitted and approved, which has not always been the easiest thing in Canada.
10:43
They want to understand, is this going to be a place that's going to be easy to do business, and also is that gonna be stable? Can they have confidence that we're not gonna have a change in government and all the rules aren't suddenly gonna change, you know, just after they make their investment? I think the other thing they wanna see is, do we actually have a deep enough pool and pipeline of projects that are investable or nearly ready to invest or shovel-ready, as people like to say? Because, you know, a lot of these funds have vast amounts of money that they need to put to work.
11:17
They don't want it sitting on the sidelines, and they don't want to wait years for things to come together.
11:23
And so I think they also are gonna wanna see that, you know, across a lot of these sectors like energy, like natural resources and critical minerals, like technology, which are some of the most in demand places to invest in the world right now, they wanna see that Canada really has the goods and, and has large enough and interesting enough projects for them to invest in that are gonna be available in the near future.

So how does having more foreign investment in our projects, especially things like infrastructure, fit into the sovereignty conversation?

4:29
If the UAE does invest seventy billion, how does that trickle down and improve life for individual Canadians?
4:37
If done right, it can have a really big impact, and the way that works is basically this.
4:41
When you have investment coming into the country, you have money that builds big and important infrastructure.
4:49
So think about things like highways or telecom towers or energy pipelines or what have you.
4:57
You have investment into companies that allows them to get bigger, to expand, to invest in new equipment, to hire more people, and all of that creates more economic activity.
5:08
Once you get more economic activity, if more people are being hired, they're earning more money, they're spending more.
5:15
Also, companies are expanding, getting bigger, they're making more revenue.

We've been talking a lot about, um, foreign investment in Canada, but what about domestic investment? Like, will this summit also spur Canadian investment firms and pension funds to put more of their money into Canadian assets?

15:35
What kind of state is the leadership team in right now? Like, how, how does a company function like this?
15:40
There's not a lot of it left, to be honest.
15:42
The leadership team has been really hollowed out.
15:45
And, and keep in mind, there are still several layers of management and leadership below that very top senior executive team, but in terms of that team, you now have the acting CEO, the chief strategy officer, Jillian Kennedy, is still in place, but the rest of the team that existed in mid-January is gone.
16:03
There was a new executive put in place when the three other executives left, uh, named Scott Blaikie.
16:10
Uh, we understand that Mr. Blaikie has now resigned as well.
16:14
Uh, he's been removed from the company website, and, uh, I heard over the weekend from sources, uh, that he did in fact resign.
Cheryl SutherlandHOST
17:01
Why is it so important to have steady leadership at a pension plan?
