James Booth played Private Hook, And the whole thing is narrated in the unmistakable voice by Richard Burton, a Welshman reading the role of the Victoria Crosses at the end.

The film itself, like most films, gets a great deal wrong.

And I think it's worth saying so plainly because these men deserve their real selves.

I think the actor was called Henry Booth.

Yeah, James Booth.

It's Henry Hook.

And he was cast as the Cockney.
