Jamelle Elliott

So just we're gonna keep running through the news.

We got word early in the summer that Jamelle Elliott was stepping down from her position as assistant coach.

Nakisha Sales has been hired to replace her, so one 1995 national champion coming on for another.

I'm not surprised.

McMullen then went on to describe some incredible examples of moments where Geno was there for his players and staff off the basketball court.

For example, when assistant coach Jamel Elliott's mother tragically died in a fire, Geno and the rest of the staff raced back from the Final Four to be there for her, and then Geno paid for the funeral.

McMullen also describes Gino's efforts helping a player through an eating disorder.

And then she described how when UConn star Rebecca Lobo's mom was fighting breast cancer and had a compromised immune system, Gino arranged for a special area of the arena to be cordoned off so Mrs. Lobo could watch her daughter play without the risk of being near other fans.
