Investigators say 58-year-old Juan Romual Padilla used La Posada, a restaurant, convenience store, and money transfer business, to send more than 100,000 wire transfers totaling over $140 million to Mexico between 2022 and 2026.

Authorities say nearly all the money went to states connected to major cartels, including Jalisco New Generation and Sinaloa.

Romual Padilla was arrested September 3rd, charged with money laundering and Bank Secrecy Act violations.

If he's convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison on each count.
