Nick SpringerHOST

Cason Carpenter is out again, so that means that it will be Anderson Kopp at center position for KU.
Nick SpringerHOST
6:12
Jalen Dupree is also listed as out as well.
Nick SpringerHOST
6:16
Mason Ellis, Saeed Gibbs is also out.
Nick SpringerHOST
6:19
Jaden Harrison, Elijah Kane, I know this is questionable for KU, so some injuries there.
Chase BelcherSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
27:31
they definitely made it easier for me
Nick SpringerHOST
27:32
pretty cool story there I think and on top of that now Belcher has become an invaluable asset to this running back room for KU when you consider the injuries they have there and some of the issues with Jalen Dupree where he's kind of fallen out of favor and all of a sudden Chase Belcher is is your de facto running back too behind Dylan Edwards along with Kajan Cummings Coleman who was not playing running back until three weeks ago so the state of the KU running back room looks significantly different than it did at the start of the season and all unpredictably so as well.
Nick SpringerHOST
28:01
But really cool to hear from Chase Belcher there and talk a little bit about his experience and his journey ultimately to Kansas.
Nick SpringerHOST
28:08
How about another transfer? It was a little bit different, a younger guy, Kevin Otis on the defensive line.
Derek JohnsonHOST
21:39
Chase Belcher with an or to Kajon Cummings Coleman at running back as the backup to Dylan Edwards.
Derek JohnsonHOST
21:46
No Jalen Dupree.
Derek JohnsonHOST
21:47
Now, Dupree played, I think it was like one snap.
Derek JohnsonHOST
21:50
against Baylor, and it was a pass-blocking snap.
Daniel CourtwrightHOST
15:15
I want to say on like six of them, Chase Belcher was the back.
Daniel CourtwrightHOST
15:18
Chase Belcher is that fourth down back, the guy that they trusted more, which, well, you know, we, we can talk about Jalen Dupree and you know, what does that mean for him? Right.
Daniel CourtwrightHOST
15:26
I don't know what's going on there with Jalen Dupree.
Daniel CourtwrightHOST
15:28
I don't know if they just hate him or he's dinked up or whatever.
Daniel CourtwrightHOST
15:32
I don't want to, you know, just start any rumors, but it is a head scratcher a little bit as to like what, what's going on with Jalen Dupree because we thought he was going to be essentially the number two back.
Daniel CourtwrightHOST
15:43
Um, But yeah, Dylan Edwards had a great game, and I think, like you said, he had that one that was taken back, and the cut was incredible on that play.
Daniel CourtwrightHOST
15:52
It just unfortunately didn't count.
Nick SpringerHOST
19:55
Part of that is also what we talked about on Saturday in the postgame as well.
Nick SpringerHOST
20:00
Jalen Dupree has seemingly fallen way out of favor among the Kansas coaches.
Nick SpringerHOST
20:06
He was not really utilized at all offensively in the game against Baylor, the transfer from Colorado State.
Nick SpringerHOST
20:13
And that's really kind of telling because this is a running back room that has been devastated by injuries.
Nick SpringerHOST
20:27
But they've brought in Chase Belcher, midway through the season, who is a 5-5 guy, became eligible from Kennesaw State.
Nick SpringerHOST
20:34
They switched Kajun Cummings-Coleman from defensive back to running back.
Nick SpringerHOST
20:38
And both Belcher and Kajun Cummings-Coleman were getting opportunities ahead of Jalen Dupree on Saturday against Baylor.
Nick SpringerHOST
20:43
On Monday, we got the official depth chart from from KU and Jalen Dupree was not listed as a running back.
Derek JohnsonHOST
22:29
Honestly, I'm not going to give it to him, but Chase Belcher, it was really good to see him.
Derek JohnsonHOST
22:33
He was... weird no Jalen Dupree right if you're gonna get some of the backups in there I don't know what's going on there but I thought Chase Belcher did a really good job keeping things on schedule and being that nice kind of spell back to Edwards it felt like he was always falling forward for Kansas so nice little in-season addition for you there with Belcher but yeah Edwards and Marshall and then Bruin had five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown um Cox, as we mentioned, was kind of unguardable.
Derek JohnsonHOST
22:59
McMillan had two for 66 in the score, but I think the drop precludes him.
Derek JohnsonHOST
23:04
To me, this is Dylan Edwards, right? In a game, you had been kind of struggling the last two weeks running the ball.
Nick SpringerHOST
8:56
And ultimately they do, they do find a way to win it.
Nick SpringerHOST
8:59
I'm seeing a couple of questions about, about Jalen Dupree.
Nick SpringerHOST
9:01
We can talk about that too.
Nick SpringerHOST
9:02
Yeah.
Nick SpringerHOST
9:02
So obviously Jalen Dupree, I don't, I don't even think got a snap today.
Nick SpringerHOST
9:06
And the takeaway there has to be simply that he is having issues in practice to where this coaching staff doesn't trust him, whether it's a ball security thing, maybe he's fumbling too much in practice or whatever it may be.
Nick SpringerHOST
9:18
Yes, clearly Jalen Dupree is not a guy that this coaching staff trusts to carry the football or be on the field offensively for Kansas.
Nick SpringerHOST
9:26
So ultimately today you see a lot of Dylan Edwards.
Nick SpringerGUEST
56:07
I mean, Dylan Edwards was getting hit in the backfield quite a bit against K-State and was not really able to break through a lot of arm tackles just because he's a smaller guy.
Nick SpringerGUEST
56:17
And so, does a Chase Belcher get more run? KU, do they trust Jalen Dupree a little bit more? Clearly not because he didn't play much last week.
Nick SpringerGUEST
56:23
Like – I actually have faith that Isaiah Marshall is going to perform well.
Nick SpringerGUEST
56:28
I'm excited to see Isaiah Marshall.
Nick SpringerGUEST
56:38
And I think...
Nick SpringerGUEST
56:40
I guess previously I did not think that KU could win a game if they had to rely on Isaiah Marshall.
Nick SpringerGUEST
56:45
I think they can now, but even still I'd like to see them get the ground game going with Dylan Edwards or Jalen Dupree or whoever.
Nick SpringerGUEST
56:52
Put Kyson Cummings, come on out there, I don't care.

48:23
You guys have a lot of injuries, right?
Andy KotelnickiSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
48:28
Well, you have Dylan and then you have Jalen Dupree and Kai Cummings and Chase Belcher, all the guys that have been really rotating in at that spot.
Andy KotelnickiSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
48:36
And they've been getting a lot of reps at practice.
Andy KotelnickiSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
48:38
Now, the challenging thing with those three guys is that their reps in practice are so critical because they haven't been around as often available.

Sean KellermanHOST
56:35
You like what you see out of Isaiah Marshall in the run game.
Sean KellermanHOST
56:37
He's been using his legs more, which is part of what makes him such a dynamic player.
Sean KellermanHOST
56:42
But I think you'll see a little bit more of Jalen Dupree, a little bit more of Kaijon in this game because that has to happen.
Sean KellermanHOST
56:47
Kansas can't afford to be second and 10, certainly can't afford to be second and 12, second and 15.
Nick SpringerHOST
11:49
But Kansas does not have a tough physical runner right now.
Nick SpringerHOST
11:54
They clearly don't trust Jalen Dupree, who really wasn't on the field much at all against K-State.
Nick SpringerHOST
11:58
It was basically only Dylan Edwards in that game for KU.
Nick SpringerHOST
12:02
You think about a guy like Chase Belcher, the Kennesaw State transfer they added at the midway point of the season.
