Jake Weatherald

Now, Ryan Harris has got these Chargers going absolutely beautifully, and there are some impressive inclusions this season.

Number one, of course, being Jake Weatherald, uh, returned after three seasons at Tasmania, um, and obviously it was that stint down in Tassie that got him into the test side.

Well, he's now back out of the test side and looking like he's gonna be available at the very least, uh, for the first half of this season.

So I mean, what a great pickup [chuckles] that has been for South Australia.

Yeah, it's not often that you can just have the test open, uh, slide back into your, into your state side, but that's sort of what's happened here for South Australia.

And, um, I guess fortunately for them, unfortunately for, for Jake and I guess all of that sort of high performance, uh, program, but you know, they're actually sort of gonna see him a, quite a little bit to start the season, um, perhaps more than they expected because, um, obviously Renshaw's gone up into the test side and he's taken that spot.

So, uh, having spoken to, to Ryan Harris recently and, and Jake Weatherald, um, at the Cricket Australia content camp, um, that we had last week, he's super determined, like he, uh, says he's not done at international level, test level, and, um, nor should he think that he is because, um, you know, he scored a lot of runs in the last three years on very difficult batting conditions in domestic cricket.

So, um, yeah, he, he just I guess looking for a chance to show, uh, those tweaks that he's made over the winter.

... which is interesting when you consider the Head-Weatherald pairing-

... and i- in the same sort of framing.

I think that there was always a sense that he was maybe the next guy in, um, particularly for a top order batter, but to, um, to get in halfway through that Northern series was unusual.

It was unusual the way they, they punted Weatherald after, you know- It wa- I'm gonna say one test.

It, it was six tests that he'd, he'd played in a row.

Mm.

But also Jake Weatherill, the... well previous australian opening opening batter also rejoins the squad after a couple of years in tasmania so some big big ins for the for the sackers

yeah a couple of i mean jake weatherald is certainly a big in um you know i found i actually found the jokes signing quite interesting um The reason I say that is because obviously you've got Alex Carey, who plays for South Australia when he's not on Australian commitments.

But South Australia have also got Harry Nilsson, who's one of the best keeper batters in the country.

And...

The question for Emilio Gay is this week, you know, I, I think he needs a significant score to stay in the side.

The, the way they're talking about him is exactly the way Australia talked about Jake Weatherald.

"Oh, you know, he's making contributions," and all the rest of it, and that didn't buy Jake Weatherald any rope when it actually came to a, a point of having to make a decision.

'Cause if Bethel comes back in, either they bring him back in at three, they've gotta put Jordan Cox somewhere.

Either he's out of the side or he's replacing Jamie Smith, and that's one way to do it, or he's coming in as an opener and replacing Emilio Gay, who doesn't have a...
