Jago: A Life Underwater

I've made some films previous to Octopus Teacher which were close in style and genre.

My very first film, A Life Underwater, about Indonesian spear fisherman and his relationship with his way of life and the natural world.

That for me was the beginning and something I've tried to build on and exploring.

how we can connect to new audiences through different ways of approaching those types of film.

I was prioritizing the most engaging story for the audience and the audience are humans.

Director and producer James Reid there.

My Octopus Teacher and Jargo A Life Underwater are available to stream online, as are Blackfish and Grizzly Man.

And if you want to hear more from Werner Herzog about Grizzly Man, listen back to our episode on survival, available on BBC Sounds.
