Parizeau was an economist.

Parizeau understood

the economic implications of things.

And

So that's, that's what Marion Dumont did with Action Démocratique that morphed into the CAQ.

He was on, you know, he was on the bus with Parizeau a- and, and with Lucien Bouchard in the '95 referendum.

But, you know, he's always soft-pedaled it.

But then when they asked him, like there was thought of getting him to be the leader of the Quebec Liberals, and he chuckled.

I was there.

I was in the room when, when, uh, Parizeau resigned on Halloween 1995, the day after the, the, the, uh, the, uh, the referendum result, which was a near miss for Canada.

That was a very, very close, uh, situation.

1980 wasn't as close, mercifully.

And it stinks that I know nothing about politics.

Where's Jacques Parizeau? Is he still alive? No idea.

I'm kidding.

He was the referendum guy.

I never actually once saw anybody criticize separatists going to France to get some sort of endorsement, you know.

Jacques Parizeau did it.

He was open about it.

Bernard Landry, another premier, he did it the same.

Jacques Daoust, who was the president of, the outgoing president of HEC Montreal, Quebec.

So we're far from Jacques Parizeau and Bernard Landry on the PQ side.

Problem is it's not like the Liberals or the CAQ have a lot of sterling economic team members either.

Fair enough.

50 years ago, René Lévesque got in by saying, "No, no, no. We'll have a referendum, but it's not a referendum on separation.

It's a referendum on a mandate to negotiate." It was about separation, and Jacques Parizeau talked about the lobster pot.

Once you get c- con people into voting yes in a referendum, then you've shut the lobster pot and they can't get back out.

That's what this is about.
