Jacob's Ladder

And it says that angels were going up and down the ladder and It's one of the most famous scenes in the Old Testament.

It's referred to as Jacob's dream about Jacob's ladder.

He sees this ladder.

Jesus refers to it in John 1, verse 51.

And this is a study that we actually did a number of years ago before Daniel Ryan Day and Rasool Berry were regular members of the group.

It was 2014, 12 years ago already, that Mark led Elisa and Bill through this study called Jacob and Jesus.

And when we read about Jacob in Genesis, we find a number of things that are predicted would be true of Jacob, in a sense, before they happened.

But as almost always seems to be true about predictions we read in the Bible, the way that those predictions or prophecies come true is not as simple and straightforward as you might think they would be.

Mark and Alisa and Bill will focus on that aspect, the fulfilled prophecy part of the life of Jacob in this first segment.

But where Mark begins the conversation is with another example of this prophecy fulfillment twist, only from Greek history and legend.

And so,

Yeah.

It is God acting in Christ to reconcile alienated humanity to himself.

And then we ended last time with the look at Jacob's ladder from Genesis 28, and the picture there is exactly this.

Jacob sees heaven opened, a stairway joining earth and heaven with God's angels ascending and descending upon it.

He awakens.

You will see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man, just as Jacob saw it in his dream, the ladder.

Jesus is the ladder there.

Jesus is not merely showing Nathanael where Jacob's ladder is.

He identifies himself as the meeting place between heaven and earth, God and man.
