At the moment, the official world record is Jacob Kiplimo's with Yomov's pending ratification because track and field needs to just make it harder.

Why does it take so long to ratify? What do they have to do? So they often really measure the course is one thing, which shouldn't take that long, but here we are.

Then there's other factors.

Like top 50 in that field was probably one of the strongest fields they've had in a while.

Like Kiplimo won like it was nothing and obviously is a world record or was a world record holder.

Yeah.

i don't know i think i reflected on it after i was talking to work with warwick court a little bit um sports psychologist and i don't know kind of just reframed how i approach events and racing and running in general like that because you can do everything right in the build and take it so seriously and so disciplined and not to say you make sacrifices and you know, you make opportunity costs, whatever.

We'll go through those names and who we think might win the races.

So World Athletics ratified Jacob Kiplimo's 57-20 half marathon that he ran earlier this year in Lisbon.

They did that on Thursday, so about four days ago.

If you don't count...

Jacob Kiplimo, I don't know if you remember this, Martin, but last year he ran in Barcelona, I think, and he ran under 57 minutes, but it didn't count because he was following the pace cars too closely.

He went on this march in Lisbon to lower Yomif Kajelca's previous world record by 10 seconds, running 57.20, but Yomif Kajelca just got it back 56.51. Whew.

What a great tug of war between these two men just trying to lower the standard, raise the bar at the half marathon distance.

So Let's Run, like, posed the question, like, one, is this a situation where the course was short, or is it a situation where the timing mat was just, like, placed in the wrong spot, and then that split, like, wasn't actually 1,100 meters, it was just, like, a situation where the timing mat wasn't in the right spot? So fingers crossed that they measure the course, everything checks out for Yemif, and he keeps the half marathon world record.

We don't need a Jacob Kiplimo situation where he gets it in Barcelona, and then they determined he ran too close to the follow, or to the pace car, and, uh, they didn't allow it.

So hopefully Yemif gets ratified.

I want him to, but interested to see where the, uh, this investigation goes.

They're not, like, headliner names.

They're, like, B names in a major marathon at this point in time.

Your A names are, uh, Yomif Kijelcha, John Korir, Jacob Kiplimo, and Sebastian Saue.

Those are your four A names.

So, fingers crossed he's back for the spring.

It, well, I mean, Chicago, now there, I think there is a bit more intrigue there from the front of the race, 'cause you'll have J- uh, Jacob Kiplimo trying to lower the world record.

Because at first it was gonna be, okay, maybe Sawe lowers it and then, you know, makes it tougher for Kiplimo in Chicago, and could he do it ag- could he, you know, get under two in Chicago? More intrigue and attention on the American, um, race in Chicago, 'cause you have Charles Six, you have Vinnie Mowry, and you have Clayton Young all potentially thinking that they can get under Conner Mantz's American record.
