Jacmel

Years ago on our honeymoon, my wife and I went to Haiti and we worked, we visited, toured all around Haiti.

We started in Port-au-Prince and then we went to a seaside town called Jacmel.

And if I recall my Haitian geography correctly, we specifically from Jacmel, I hired tour guides to take us to a place called the Basin Bleu.

and the blue pools, basically the blue basins.

And these blue pools, these blue basins are a beautiful, spectacular natural feature.

Back to her roots.

Why Jackmel specifically, though? Why does the physical location matter if the microphones and the cables are the same?

Because returning to Haiti, absorbing the ambient street sounds, the local energy, the specific humidity and air of Jackmel, it imbued the album with an incredibly specific sense of place.

The environment leaks into the recording.
