One area Dr. Dawson is working on is what's happening to the ice, and what she's seeing might surprise you.

Everybody thinks, oh, climate change, we're gonna have increased access to the Northwest Passage.

We're gonna be able to trade through the Arctic.

But the reality is actually climate change is making it less safe, less navigatable, less accessible, um, than before.

So everyone thinks, "Oh, it's open," but it's actually not at all.

Um, and the reason is climate change is h- is breaking up this ice pack from the Arctic Ocean.

It's flowing directly into the Northwest Passage, and now we have more ice choking up that route than we ever had before.

It's a geopolitical one.
