Um, and, and this is where I wrap up my little thing, all you have to do is go back 45, 50 years, read Wayne Barrett, read Jack Newfield, and you see that David Corn's brilliant work on all of this in this new book was out there in plain sight to everybody for 50 years.

The Russian mob, ties to the Kremlin, money laundering, ties to the dark demi-monde of international boxing and MMA that led to a, uh, an event for July 4th out, uh, on the South Lawn of the White House.

Th- what David's writing about here isn't an extraneous foreign policy story.

He's writing about the core, the essence of the corruption that is Donald Trump.

So that was my long premise, because I've just been immersed in this all this week because I just find this so fascinating that it was all out there, and I read the Wayne Barrett stories, and I was like, a- a- as any New Yorker, you're in New York now, David, how the hell would, of all the people in the United States, would you ever elect a guy with this kind of background? Uh, you detail it well, uh, so I congratulate you on your timing, um, but I was just wondering how you connect these stories.

Well, well, well, first of all, thank you for comparing my work to that of Wayne Barrett and Jack Newfield, who did a lot of that work for the Village Voice in the '80s and '90s and even afterwards.

They were her- journalistic heroes of mine, and I knew Wayne, and I'm sorry he's no longer with us, as is also true for Jack.

Exactly.

There's a great quote, which I kind of looked up before this from a very renowned journalist called Jack Newfield.

And I saw it on the Climate Unfucked podcast recently, which I think captures this perfectly.

The quote is, compassion without anger can become merely sentiment or pity.

Larry Shaw and his father got into this really big lawsuit.

And Jack Newfield said it was biblical.

He spoke about it in terms of biblical.

It was a biblical thing.

I do.

And that's, and that's why I love this quote from, uh, Jack Newfield, who is a legendary investigative journalist, and he was the mentor to my mentor, investigative reporter Wayne Barrett.

And he wrote, um, that, "Compassion without anger can become merely sentiment or pity.

Knowledge without anger can stagnate into mere cynicism and apathy.
