Jack Miles

Uh, now God also goes through a change.

You may know of Jack Miles' book, God: A Biography, where God seems to regret destroying the world.

He says, "I will never destroy the world again." The evidence is the Keshet, is the rainbow.

When you look at a rainbow, that's God's covenant not to destroy the world.

So you put those all together and you get this very complicated sort of deity.

If people are really interested in the developing character of God across the Bible, I cannot recommend highly enough a book called God, a Biography by Jack Miles.

It's from like the early 90s, but it won the Pulitzer Prize and it is a really wonderful, purely literary, right? If I start at the beginning and I keep reading, how do I understand the development of this character? Why is this god sometimes very involved in human affairs and very distant in other times? That kind of thing.

Really beautifully done book.
