Jack Lovelock

For me, the very special thing about it is that it's a success across a broad range of events.

And if you look back in New Zealand's athletics history, we probably, you know, the highlights of our athletics legacy have been 1500 metre mile, John Walker, Jack Lovelock, Peter Snell, names like that.

And now we're starting to, well, I think we've seen it for a while, but now those names are starting to be replaced by athletes and other events like Hamish Kerr and the high jump.

New Zealand's never had a world-class high jumper until Hamish Kerr came along.

I told myself a lot of stories.

I had a lot of visual references of past New Zealand representatives, such as Jack Lovelock and Peter Snell, John Walker, you know, watching videos.

And that really helped me acquire that discipline as well, that visualization process.

And sometimes I pictured myself in their own shoes.
