By the way, I'll just mention this, and people who know FDD know this, that the kinds of events you talk about, I had a conversation about with Jean Kirkpatrick and Jack Kemp about a week before 9-11, where they said to me, you see, Cliff, people think we have no enemies because the Berlin Wall fell, the Soviet Union is no more, but something's going on here, and we don't think it's being... followed carefully understood we don't think the dots are being connected and then 9 11 happens and fdd came out of that had those discussions actually but but but again and they gave me just a few of those examples and so we can give you many more and actually initially just asked me from a research point of view can you figure out can you see if anybody is looking at this closely obviously i couldn't tell what the intelligence community was doing, but I could look at think tanks and universities and news media and a lot of other things, and I didn't think it was being done in any comprehensive way.

And I would even say this, I'll just raise, there was a certain lack of imagination, if you think about it, and if you remember back, I certainly remember, I bet you do, when we thought, yes, it was a real danger that there could be bombs put on planes.

In response, we heard from Arthur Laffer at the University of Southern California.

He talked to Jack Kemp and some others in the conservative wing, and they convinced Ronald Reagan when he ran for president that Reagan should lower marginal tax rates Laffer said, do this and it will stimulate economic growth and actually federal revenue will increase.

Well, it didn't quite work out that way.

Arguably, Reagan decided to spend the Soviet Union into imploding.

DeSantis, DeSantis at one point early in his governorship, his first term, was an interesting politician to me.

I thought that he was a true conservative, like sort of, you know, a couple generations removed from Jack Kemp and William F. Buckley.
