Jack Haley was borrowed from 20th Century Fox as Ebsen's replacement.

Haley was a seasoned vaudevillian who was able to fit in with the cast, having previously appeared on screen with Judy Garland and on stage with Burt Lahr.

Burt Lahr's Cowardly Lion was a roaring success.

And there may be no better example of this than The Wizard of Oz.

Released back in 1939 by MGM, it gave us Judy Garland as Dorothy, Ray Bulger as the Scarecrow, Jack Haley as the Tin Man, and of course, Burt Lahr as the Cowardly Lion.

Picture that lion suit.

Burt Lahr, the actor that got to wear that famous suit, was already an accomplished stage and vaudeville comedian when he was cast in the role.

Sure.

Liza Minnelli, who is Judy Garland's daughter, married Jack Haley Jr., who is Jack Haley's son.

That is correct.

Judy Garland and Jack Haley were the parents.

Were the

And I think Jack Haley, fine actor, Burt Lahr kind of steals the scene.

And unfortunately, it kind of typecasted him into that voice for much of his career as the Cowardly Lion.
