Jack Gold

Um, it's almost like a lot of the, the Catholic media was moving in that direction.

But the film was directed by Jack Gold, so, you know, you can probably guess his religious background, and adapted by Brian Moore from his own 1972 novel, and it's a drama about traditionalist Irish monks who continue celebrating the Latin Mass in defiance of a future Vatican III council.

It stars Trevor Howard as the abbot, Martin Sheen as the Vatican envoy, uh, and a couple other people in the cast.

And basically the, the whole movie is about how this priest, in defiance of everything else, has decided to lead his order in doing, like, traditional Latin Masses for, uh, for basically forever on, on this small Irish monastery on the island.
