which stars Richard Farnsworth as Alvin, Sissy Spacek, who folks might remember as a longtime friend of David Lynch.

Actually, she had helped finance Eraserhead, and she's married to Jack Fisk, who worked on this movie and other Lynch works as well.

And so this is her first time actually appearing in his film.

And of course, also Harry Dean Stanton, who appears right at the end of the movie in a great reveal as Lyle Strait.

And if you think about blue velvet and then the blue box in key and Mulholland drive, and then inland empire, which has on high and blue tomorrows, I don't know what Lynch was thinking with Blue during this period, but there's something going on there with Blue.

So I say all that to say that as much as I focused on Red and Twin Peaks, this viewing of the straight story made me think I need to go back and see what's going on with all the Blue.

And maybe that's a Jack Fisk question, because obviously the production design would have a lot to do with that.

But that is one thing I noticed this time that was distinct from my other viewings.

He was the Lord of the Rings guy.

So if you can't get Jack Fisk, get the Lord of the Rings guy, uh, to do your, to do your Western.

Uh, and I want to have a long discussion about Benedict Cumberbatch's performance in this, which second to second, I go back and forth on incredible performance and trying too hard.

And then maybe is trying too hard the entire point of the performance, uh,
